Lund sits in a two-country labour market, so an ordinary errand — the airport, a job, a night out — often means crossing a national border. The timetable is the easy part. The hard part is that two transit systems meet in the middle, each selling its own tickets, and that Sweden is currently checking documents on trains coming back in.
Pick where you are going for the service to take, the ticket that actually covers it, and the mistake people make on that route. Times and frequencies here are typical, not today's departures.
Copenhagen

A Skåne-only ticket stops at the border — even one sold as "hela Skåne". Riding on into Denmark on it is travelling without a valid ticket, and the penalty fare is 1,500 SEK.
All Öresundståg run straight through: there is no change at Malmö. Two departures are the exception and terminate at Hyllie, just over the bridge — the 17.44 Monday to Friday and the 23.38 on Saturdays. A local Pågatåg never crosses the bridge at all.
Carry ID — Sweden is checking documents on trains coming back in
Sweden has notified internal border controls that run from 12 May to 11 November 2026 and explicitly cover its land border with Denmark. The named crossing point for the train is Hyllie, the first station after the bridge: people getting off are checked on the platform and the rest are checked on board. In practice these are spot checks rather than every passenger every time, but you have to be able to produce ID whenever you are asked. The northbound timetable pads about six minutes at Hyllie for this; southbound the stop is the usual two. Going the other way, Denmark currently has no border control notified at the Öresund — its controls cover the German border. That is not a promise: Danish police keep separate powers to check identity inland, so carry your ID in both directions. Sweden has renewed these controls continuously since 2015, so treat 11 November 2026 as a review date rather than an end date.

There is one genuinely useful thing to know: a Skånetrafiken ticket bought all the way to a Danish station is a real through-ticket. Buy Lund C → København H in the Skånetrafiken app and you are covered for the whole trip, bridge included, and you do not need anything Danish. Öresundståg and DSB sell the same crossing from their own sides.
Since December 2024 an Öresund single is valid for a block of time rather than for one journey — 2, 3, 4 or 5 hours depending on distance — with unlimited travel inside that window and no direction to declare. A 24-hour ticket costs about the same as two singles, so a day return is often the simpler buy.
The catch that catches everyone is the Copenhagen Metro. On a single or a 24-hour ticket the Metro is included. On a 30-day or Flex pass it is not: that needs a paid Metrotillägg on top. Skånetrafiken does not publish a fixed price list for Öresund singles — the app quotes the fare for your date, and any figure you find on a search engine is likely to be a 30-day pass price rather than a single.

Copenhagen
In DenmarkFrom Lund CBe honest with yourself about reliability when you plan a flight or an interview. Öresundståg is the least punctual product in Skånetrafiken's network: 81% of trains arrived within four minutes in 2025, against a 90% target, and it has missed that target three years running. About a third of cancellations are operator faults and another third infrastructure. In April 2025 track defects on the bridge cut the Malmö–Copenhagen service for ten days. Border checks alone are estimated to cost cross-Öresund commuters over 30 million minutes a year. There are also two planned disruptions this year: expansion-joint work on the bridge from 31 August for about eight weeks, with one lane each way, and a full bridge closure for an emergency exercise on 1 October, 20.00–23.15.

Skånetrafiken 30-day pass over the Öresund
A Swedish government subsidy halves 30-day passes from 1 July to 31 December 2026, and cross-Öresund commuters are included; it stacks with student and senior discounts, but destinations beyond Copenhagen are excluded. The Metro is NOT included on a 30-day or Flex pass — that needs a separate Metrotillägg. From 1 January 2027 the price returns to normal.

DSB Øresundsbillet, from the Danish side
Valid on S-trains, the Metro and buses in Denmark — but not on SJ's trains, which also cross the bridge. Buying on the Danish side for the trip home is fine; so is buying the return in the Skånetrafiken app before you go.

It does not reach Lund. If you commute on a Rejsekort you still need a Skånetrafiken ticket for the last leg home.

Taking a bicycle over
Crossing the bridge with a bike needs a separate Cykeltillägg, and no discounts apply to it. Travellers without bikes, wheelchair users and prams always have priority for the space. A fully folded bike, folding e-scooter or microbike travels free as hand luggage. Danish rules on the far side are different and are not covered by the Swedish terms. The cheapest way across with a bike is the Helsingør ferry, where a bicycle is free with a passenger ticket.

The airport station is on the Danish side of the bridge, so a Skåne ticket does not reach it. The train has to be an Öresundståg signed for København — Kastrup is its first stop in Denmark.

Paying at the barrier is by far the most expensive way across. If you will drive over more than about twice a year, the subscription is cheaper than a single walk-up crossing.
Helsingør by ferry
In DenmarkFrom Lund CThe old operator name ForSea is gone — the route has been Øresundslinjen since September 2023. This is the cheap way over with a car, and the only way over with a bike and no surcharge, but you have to get to Helsingborg first.

The station is directly under Terminal 3. Coming home, the same trains run through the night, so a late landing is not stranded.
