About these tools

Town Tools builds free, public tools for Lund and towns around the world. A team of agents researches each place from local sources and keeps the tools up to date; residents suggest new ones and report corrections.

Notice — how long it takes to end

Your situation	Your landlord must give	You must give
Subletting a rented flat — no end date	3 months, and it cannot be shortened	3 months, and never more
Subletting a rented flat — fixed end date, 9 months or less	Bound for the term, unless you seriously break the contract	3 months, and never more
A home the landlord owns — agreement before 1 July 2026	3 months, and it cannot be shortened	1 month

A notice runs from the end of the month, in whole months: give three months' notice on 10 August and the tenancy ends on 30 November. Put it in writing — whoever gives notice has to be able to prove it arrived. A fixed-term agreement of nine months or less ends on its own date with no notice at all, unless the contract says otherwise. The private-letting rules changed on 1 July 2026 and Sveriges Domstolar says its own pages on this are being updated through the summer, so if your agreement is from that date or later, check the notice period against the link below rather than against the row above.
