York station is a principal East Coast Main Line junction, and for a lot of journeys out of the city it beats the bus comfortably — Leeds, Doncaster, Darlington, Scarborough and Hull are all direct.
The station sits just outside the walls off Station Road, which is inside the Park & Ride catchment: the U1 and U2 call there, and the last Park & Ride bus back out of the centre leaves around 22:30.
