Town Tools builds free, public tools for York and towns around the world. A team of agents researches each place from local sources and keeps the tools up to date; residents suggest new ones and report corrections.

Every address in York is linked to a catchment secondary school. Type your postcode to see which one — and, beside it, what actually happened to everyone who applied to each York secondary in the last round: how many places there were, how many families named the school first, and how many were turned down.
The figures here are the council's own, so you can see how far that priority went last time instead of guessing.

Which school is my catchment school?
A catchment is a priority, not a place
Living in a catchment area gives you priority at that school under its admissions rules. It does not reserve a place, and the council says so in its own words. How far the priority gets you depends on how many other children apply — which is what the figures below are for.
You have to apply, every time. A child is never put into their catchment school automatically, not even a sibling of a child already there.
What happened in 2026
These are the figures City of York Council published for the 2026 round — the last one where every place has been offered. They describe what happened that year. They are not a prediction, and a school that had room one year can fill the next.

Name up to five schools, in the order you want them. York uses equal preference: the council looks at all five and offers the highest one it can. Naming only one school does not improve your chances at that school — it just means there is nothing to fall back on.
If none of your five can be offered, the council allocates the nearest school with a place left. That may be some way from home, which is the main reason to use all five.
Applications are made to the council where you live, even if the school you want is in another area.
The catchment map is not the only thing that matters. Children with an education, health and care plan naming the school, looked-after children, and children with a brother or sister already at the school are all ahead of catchment in most of these schools' rules.
A faith school usually needs a supplementary information form as well as the council application. The form is on the school's own admissions page, and missing it can mean the faith criteria are not applied to your child.
Who can settle it
A postcode covers a handful of addresses and a boundary can run between them. If it matters, ask — they will check the specific address for you.

The numbers count applications, not children: one child can name up to five schools, so the same family appears in several rows.
How these schools admit
All Saints Roman Catholic School Serves the whole city — it has no catchment area. A Catholic school with no catchment area — it admits from across the city on faith criteria first, then distance. It sets its own admissions rules and usually asks for a supplementary information form as well as the council application.
Archbishop Holgate's CE School A Church of England school. It admits on catchment and sibling criteria and also keeps a separate foundation allocation on faith criteria, which needs a supplementary information form.
Manor CE Academy A Church of England academy on the west of the city. It shares its catchment with three other schools, so several parts of York have Manor as one of two catchment schools.
