Pick how long you are staying and how many of you there are. This prices York's ten council long-stay car parks and a Park & Ride return against each other, cheapest first, using the tariffs that took effect on 1 April 2026.
Two things worth knowing before you read the numbers. Council car parks cost about 10% more on Fridays, Saturdays and event days — the day picker below switches between the two. And three smaller car parks outside the walls, at Bishopthorpe Road, East Parade and Rowntree Park, charge £3 an hour but each has its own limits: Rowntree Park is three hours maximum and closes at dusk, and East Parade only allows stays over two hours after 3pm. Their prices are frozen while the council runs a formal review, so they are not priced here.
Charges run 8am to midnight in the long-stay car parks. Parking between midnight and 8am is free, and an evening ticket bought from 6pm stays valid until 8am.
If you live in York, the Minster Badge is worth checking: £45 for two years, and it takes about 30% off these daytime prices and half off the evening rate.

CheapestSix sites on the ring road: Askham Bar (service 3), Designer Outlet (7), Grimston Bar (8), Monks Cross (9), Poppleton Bar (59) and Rawcliffe Bar (2/2A). Parking at the site is free if you take the bus or cycle in — at Monks Cross it is £5 a day if you do neither, and at Askham Bar and Grimston Bar parking without using the bus is not permitted at all. No overnight parking anywhere: the gates lock 15 minutes after the last bus arrives, and getting a car out after that costs £50.
Buses take about 20 minutes into the centre. Askham Bar runs every 10 to 15 minutes from 7am to 6pm on weekdays. The last bus from the city centre is around 10.30pm but it is not the same everywhere — Designer Outlet and Rawcliffe Bar run to 11pm Monday to Saturday, Poppleton Bar stops at 10.20pm on Sundays — so check your own route. No service on Christmas Day or New Year's Day.

Two ways this comes down. Up to three children aged 16 or under travel free with an accompanying adult when you board at a Park & Ride site, so a family usually pays less than the figure here. And up to five people travelling together can buy a First Group Day ticket for £13.00 after 9am on weekdays, or any time at weekends. With an older person's or disabled person's bus pass it is £1.40 boarding at a site — after 9am on weekdays, any time at weekends, and any time for York Blind Person's pass holders.

The biggest central car park and the one with the most Blue Badge bays in the city. Open 24 hours; charges apply 8am to midnight every day, including Sundays and bank holidays. No height limit. Over five hours costs £3.80 an hour on a standard day, £4.10 on a premium day. The £4.00 evening ticket covers 6pm to midnight and stays valid until 8am; parking between midnight and 8am is free.

This is the one council car park where a Blue Badge does not park free inside — the free bays are outside the barrier. The £4.00 evening ticket covers 6pm to midnight and stays valid until 8am; parking between midnight and 8am is free.

None of these car parks is inside the footstreets, and none can be. Motor vehicles are kept out of the pedestrian streets between 10.30am and 5.00pm every day by sliding bollards. Blue Badge holders can drive in during those hours through staffed bollards at Goodramgate or Blake Street, and park free in any council car park with no time limit — except Marygate, where the free bays are outside the barrier.
