Town Tools builds free, public tools for Eindhoven and towns around the world. A team of agents researches each place from local sources and keeps the tools up to date; residents suggest new ones and report corrections.

Type what you’re throwing out — it tells you which bag or cart it goes in.
Not sure which bin something goes in? Type it in. Eindhoven's waste is collected by Cure into a grey bin for what's left over (restafval), a green bin for food and garden waste (GFT-E) and a blue bin for paper, with glass and textiles going to communal containers and the rest to the milieustraat. The thing that surprises most newcomers: there's no separate plastic bin here — plastic, cans and cartons go in the grey bin and are sorted out later by machine.
The streams
Restafval — grey bin (kliko)
What's left after everything else is sorted out. In Eindhoven this also holds plastic packaging, cans and drink cartons — Cure separates those afterwards, so there's no orange PBD bin here.
GFT-E — green bin (kliko)
Vegetable, fruit and garden waste, plus cooked and raw food scraps (etensresten).
Paper & card — blue bin (kliko)
Clean, dry paper and flattened cardboard.
Glass — bottle bank (glasbak)
Glass jars and bottles, taken to a communal glass container — not the kerbside bins.
Textiles — clothing container
Clothing, shoes and textiles, taken to a communal textile container — even worn or torn, as long as they're dry and clean.
The full list, bin by bin
Restafval — grey bin (kliko)
Plastic packaging, cans and drink cartons (PBD) — In Eindhoven these go in the grey bin — Cure sorts them out by machine afterwards (nascheiding). There are no separate plastic bins here.
Disposable coffee cups
Nappies and sanitary waste
Cat litter and pet bedding
Cigarette ends and ash
Broken crockery, mugs and drinking glasses — Drinking glasses, ceramics and Pyrex are not glass recycling — they melt differently — so they go in the grey bin.
Crisp bags and snack wrappers
GFT-E — green bin (kliko)
Vegetable and fruit peelings
Leftover food, cooked or raw
Garden waste — leaves, grass, small prunings
Tea bags and coffee grounds — Check the tea bag itself is paper — some have a plastic mesh.
Bread, pastry and cut flowers
Paper & card — blue bin (kliko)
Put your bin out before 07:30 — 07:00 in July and August
Waste has to be at the kerb before 07:30, and before 07:00 in July and August, when the lorries start earlier. Bring the empty bin back in before midnight.
Winter schedule for the green bin
From December through February the green GFT-E bin is emptied only once every four weeks, instead of every two. It goes back to fortnightly from March. Look up your own dates on Cure's afvalkalender.
No separate plastic bin in Eindhoven
Plastic, cans and drink cartons (PBD) go in the grey restafval bin — Cure sorts them out by machine. If you've lived elsewhere in the Netherlands with an orange PBD container, Eindhoven works differently.
Not the curb — these go to a depot
Batteries
Never in any bin. Drop them in a supermarket or shop battery box, or take them to the milieustraat. Loose lithium and e-bike batteries can start fires in the collection lorries.
Small electricals and e-waste
Old chargers, kettles, phones and cables go back to a shop that sells them, or to the milieustraat — not the grey bin.
Paint, chemicals and medicines (KCA)
Paint, solvents, cleaning chemicals and old medicines go to the milieustraat's chemical-waste point (KCA, up to 0.1 m³ a visit) — never down the drain or in a bin.
Bulky waste and furniture (grofvuil)
Book a collection with Cure or take it to the milieustraat yourself.
Which milieustraat
The Lodewijkstraat milieustraat has been closed for rebuilding since 1 December 2025 and is due back around the end of 2026 — until then use Milieustraat Acht, Achtseweg Noord 41. You will need a Cure milieupas to get in; check the current opening hours on Cure’s own page before you drive over.
The last word
Look up your own collection days by postcode on Cure's afvalkalender. Sorting rules can change, and Cure is the last word.
Cardboard boxes (flattened) — Flatten them. A greasy or food-soiled box, like a used pizza box, isn't clean paper — check Cure's guide for where it goes.
Envelopes and egg cartons
Glass — bottle bank (glasbak)
Glass jars and bottles — To the communal glass container. Lids off; the colour of the glass doesn't matter. No drinking glasses or ceramics.
Textiles — clothing container
Clothes, shoes and textiles — To a communal textile container — even worn or torn, if dry and clean.
