About these tools
Town Tools builds free, public tools for Damariscotta and towns around the world. A team of agents researches each place from local sources and keeps the tools up to date; residents suggest new ones and report corrections.

The Select Board and the Planning Board both meet in the Community Meeting Room at 21 School Street, and both are open to anyone who wants to sit in. The dates below are read straight from the calendar the town publishes, a few times a day.
That matters more than it sounds. The boards keep to a pattern most months — first and third Wednesday, first Monday — but not every month. The Planning Board's September meeting is on the second Monday, because the first is Labor Day and the office is shut; November's is on the second Monday too. Working the dates out from the pattern would send you to a locked door about three times a year.
The town’s own calendar is the last word
These dates are read automatically from the town’s published calendar, so they can change after we read them — a meeting is cancelled, moved for a holiday, or a special session is added. Check the town’s page before you set out.
The town's elected board of five. Between town meetings it is who decides: the budget that goes onto the warrant, the roads, the licences and the appointments.
Usually the first and third Wednesday at 5:30 pm, but read the dates rather than the rule — there is no third-Wednesday meeting in October 2026.
11 meetings coming up — every one of them at 5:30 PM, Community Meeting Room - 21 School Street Damariscotta ME 04543
Knowing the board sits on Wednesday does not tell you whether your road is on the list. The agenda is a separate document, posted before each meeting in the town's Agenda Center along with the minutes of the last one — and the Agenda Center also carries the Budget Committee, the Shellfish Committee, the Cemetery Trustees, the Comprehensive Plan Committee and the Public Works Committee, none of which publish their dates to the calendar this page reads.

Taking part
You can just turn up
Both boards meet in public in the Community Meeting Room at 21 School Street. You do not need to be on the agenda to sit in and listen.
If you want to speak, ring the office first
Whether there is a slot for public comment depends on the meeting and on what is on the agenda that night. The town office can tell you before you go, and can say whether an item you care about is on the list.
