Estimate Your Property Tax
Put in the assessed value from your bill to see roughly what a year comes to, what the homestead, veteran and blind exemptions take off, and which state programmes can lower it further.
Damariscotta's rate this year is $21.03 for every $1,000 of assessed value.
It is printed on the bill. Damariscotta assesses at about 72% of what a property would sell for, so the bill's figure is lower than the market price. Use the bill's figure.
Exemptions you can claim
Each of these has to be applied for at the Town Office, and the deadline is 1 April. None of them is automatic. If you already have one, it will show on your bill.

How the rate is set
Two town pages disagree. This one follows the Assessors
The Tax Collector's Fiscal Year Tax Rate page still shows last year: $18.50 and a 92% ratio. The Assessors' Tax Information page and the FY2026 commitment book both carry $21.03 and 72%, so that is what this page uses. If you are checking against the town's site, the Assessors' page is the current one.
Where the $4,320 and $2,880 come from
Maine sets the veteran and blind exemptions at $6,000 and $4,000, and state law says every partial exemption is adjusted by the town's certified assessment ratio. Damariscotta's is 72%. The town publishes the scaled homestead figure itself — $25,000 becomes $18,000 — and the same arithmetic gives the other two. The Assessors can confirm the exact figure on your bill.
Next year's rate is not set yet
Damariscotta commits its rate in the middle of the summer. As of 7 August 2026 nothing later than FY2026 had been posted, so this page will keep showing FY2026 until the town publishes the new one.
What this does not cover
Business personal property, supplemental bills, and land in Tree Growth, Farmland or Open Space classification are all worked out differently. Bills are due 1 October and 1 April, and unpaid amounts carry 7.5% interest.
