The Raml tram is not running. The line from Victoria to Raml is being rebuilt, and until it reopens the way along that corridor is by bus, minibus and microbus on three marked routes. This page works out from today's date which stage of the closure is in force, what it means, and what runs instead. It is the published plan, not a live service board. Construction dates slip, and the National Authority for Tunnels is the authority on any change.

The operator has the last word
Construction dates slip. This shows the planned phases; the operator’s official page and app are always the authority for what is running today.
Two things here are less certain than they look. The end date first: the Authority published a start for the full closure — 1 April 2026 — but never an end date for it. What it published separately is a target of July 2028 for the rebuilt line to open, after 24 months of work. The July 2028 date on this page is that target read backwards, not a published closure end, and construction dates slip. Second, the figures. In February the Authority gave the rebuilt journey as 35 minutes and the headway as falling from 9 minutes to 3; in July it gave 33 minutes and 10 minutes to 3. This page uses the July figures. Treat either set as an intention rather than a promise.

Ten days with the Victoria–Mustafa Kamel section stopped, to measure whether the replacement vehicles could carry the load.

The same section stayed shut for about a month and a half while the replacement service settled down.
The track and the systems had run down, riders fell away, and the traffic got worse. The Ministry of Transport's case is that only two long roads connect the east of the city to the centre — the Corniche and Tariq al-Horreya — so moving that many people needs a working tram.
13.2 km from Victoria to Raml with 24 stations: 5.7 km at street level, 7.3 km elevated and a 276-metre cut-and-cover tunnel, with 30 new tram units. Capacity is to rise from 4,700 to 13,800 passengers an hour in each direction, the journey to fall from 60 minutes to about 33, and trams to come every 3 minutes instead of every 10.
The rebuilt tram is planned to interchange with the Alexandria metro at Victoria and at Sidi Gaber, so a rider can change between the two.
Alexandrians give directions by tram stop. People live at Glym, at San Stefano, past Sidi Gaber. The stop names stay; it is the trams that stopped.
