Town Tools builds free, public tools for Udhagamandalam and towns around the world. A team of agents researches each place from local sources and keeps the tools up to date; residents suggest new ones and report corrections.

Parson's Valley supplies about 70 per cent of Udhagamandalam's water. The municipality pumps roughly 11.41 million litres a day, plus a little from local sources, for about 110,540 people across 36 wards and 27,636 houses.
When the water does not come, there is no page anywhere that tells you whether it is only your tank or your whole ward. So this is a board of what neighbours say: pick your ward, say when the water last ran there, and see what other people in your ward have said. Reading it is free and needs no account. Saying something needs you to be signed in, so that one person is one voice.
The locality names beside each ward come from the municipality's own 2019 ward map, which is the only ward-by-ward list published anywhere. It is seven years old and a few wards may have moved since. The ward number is the thing reports are attached to, so a wrong locality name never affects the board — but if yours is wrong, the correction link at the foot of this page is the fastest way to fix it.
This is history, not this week's schedule. We have not been able to find a current, published statement of what interval each ward is on — the municipality's own website is not reachable from where this page is built, and the intervals below come from reporting on the April 2024 shortage, when Parson's Valley held under 15 feet of its 50. So the board above does not tell you whether your ward is late. It tells you how long it has been, and lets you compare that with other wards. If you know your ward's current interval, the correction link at the foot of this page is the fastest way to get it onto here.
| 23 wards | Water on alternate daysThe largest group during the April 2024 shortage. Which wards these were was not published ward by ward. |
| 12 wards | Water once in three daysReported at the same time. Again, not published ward by ward. |
| 1 ward | Water once in six daysThe worst-served ward in that shortage. |

Nobody publishes how often these areas are meant to get water, so this board can say how long it has been since neighbours last saw it and not whether that is late. The days below are a count, not a verdict.

How this board works
A full reservoir is not water in your pipe. What is in the tank and what reaches an area are two different questions: pumps fail, mains burst, and a turn can be missed with storage brim-full. This section is background. The board above is the question this page is about.
Parson's Valley reservoir is 18 km from town and supplies about 70 per cent of the municipality's water, through three schemes commissioned in 1975, 2000 and 2019 with a combined installed capacity of about 20 million litres a day, plus a smaller dam scheme. Between them they serve all 36 wards. Its working range is about 50 feet, and in April 2024 it fell under 15 feet, with roughly five feet of accumulated silt and about an inch and a half of evaporation a fortnight. The town moved onto interval supply and hired tankers for the higher wards. But the level is not the answer to “has the water come”, and this town has the clearest possible proof of that. In June 2025 the reservoir stood at 49 feet of 50 — essentially full — and seven wards went more than two weeks without piped water, because a 200 horsepower pumping motor failed and the emergency motor behind it failed too. The motor went to Erode for repair and a replacement was ordered from Kolkata. Only Rose Mount, which is ward 7, was named in the reporting; the other six wards were never named anywhere we could find. A full reservoir means there is water in the hills. It does not mean there is water in your pipe. Only the people in your ward know that, which is what the board above is for.

Reporting no supply
Everything on this board is what residents have said, not what the municipality has confirmed. It is a record of neighbours' experience — useful precisely because nothing official is published quickly enough to be useful — and it is not a schedule, not a promise, and never a statement that your water is due. If a ward shows nothing, that means nobody has reported there recently, which is not the same as the water having come.
