One meter, two bills. Put in your monthly gallons and see what H.B. & T.S. charges for the water and what the Town charges for the wastewater, at the rates each publishes.

Town Tools builds free, public tools for Thompson's Station and towns around the world. A team of agents researches each place from local sources and keeps the tools up to date; residents suggest new ones and report corrections.

≈ 5,000 gallons
Your H.B. & T.S. bill shows the gallons used for the month. Divide by 1,000 — 6,400 gallons is 6.4. Both charges are worked out from that one figure.

1 1,000 gallons = 1,000 gallons. For the standard 5/8-inch residential meter, which is what almost every house has. A larger meter has a higher monthly customer charge — $30.15 for 3/4-inch, $43.55 for 1-inch, $132.50 for 2-inch. H.B. & T.S. publishes these rates without an effective date and asks you to ring the office on 615-794-7796 to confirm what is current.

The Town has no meter of its own. It takes the monthly reading from H.B. & T.S. and charges the same gallons, so there is nothing separate to enter — and the wastewater charge is the same for every customer on the system, with no allowance for water that went on a lawn rather than down a drain.
One meter, two bills, two separate organisations. H.B. & T.S. Utility District reads your water meter and bills you for the water. The Town then takes that same reading and bills you separately for the wastewater. Put your monthly usage in below and you get both.
You only pay the Town's wastewater charge if your property is connected to the Town's sewer system. Much of Thompson's Station is on a septic system instead, and those homes get the water bill only — there is a note further down on how to tell, and it is less clear-cut than it should be.
An estimate, not your bill
This is a guide, not your actual bill. Real bills depend on your meter size, your exact metered use, and any adjustments or programs you qualify for. Check your bill or the city for the exact figures.
Why the bills keep rising
Where the wastewater rate comes from
$30.00 a month plus $8.38 for every 1,000 gallons, set by Ordinance 2025-010 and in force since 1 July 2025. It was a 3.5% rise on the previous $29.00 and $8.10, which had stood since July 2022. The same ordinance schedules the next review for on or about 1 January 2027, so expect this to be looked at again in the first half of that year.
The 5.01% increase you may have read about
In January 2026 the Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved a 5.01% increase — but not to this bill. Ordinance 2025-017 raised the one-off fees a developer or builder pays to connect: $11,801.24 per equivalent dwelling unit in wastewater impact fee and $6,833.76 in effluent disposal fee, both from 1 February 2026 and both rising each January with a construction cost index. Your monthly charge did not change.
Why there are two bills at all
H.B. & T.S. Utility District — Hillsboro, Burwood and Thompson's Station — is a separate non-profit utility district, not part of the Town. It has supplied water here since 1968 and serves about 24,700 people from an office in Franklin. The Town runs the sewer. Neither one can take the other's payment, and falling behind with one does not affect the other.
Worth knowing
Am I on Town sewer, or on septic?
This is the hardest question on the page and the Town's own website gives three different answers. Taken together, the subdivisions its pages name are: Allenwood, Avenue Downs, Bridgemore Village, Fields of Canterbury, Fountain View, Garrett Farms, Heritage Commons Commercial District, Littlebury, Parsons Valley, Station Hill, Tollgate Village and Whistle Stop.
That is the union of the three lists, not any one of them. The wastewater FAQ names seven and is the only one including Heritage Commons; the utilities page names a different seven; the sewer-emergency note names eleven and leaves Heritage Commons out. So the longest list is not simply the most complete one.
None of the three is the legal document. The service area is a map — Appendix A, adopted by Ordinance 2020-007 and amended by Ordinance 2025-011 — and the Town Code says the current schedule is held in the Town Recorder's office. If being right matters, for a purchase or a planning decision, ring the Town's wastewater department on 615-794-4333 ext. 4 and ask. Do not rely on this list alone, including ours.
If you are on septic
You pay H.B. & T.S. for water and nothing to the Town for wastewater, so only the water half of this page applies to you. Pumping and maintenance are yours. The Town has been tightening the rules for new on-site systems through its Land Development Ordinance, but those changes are aimed at developers building decentralised treatment plants, not at a household with a tank.
Paying, and the dates that matter
Wastewater is billed through Ampstun — pay online, set up an auto-draft, or ring (877) 285-3271. You can also post it or drop it at Town Hall, 1110 Fountain View Blvd. The Town's billing line is 615-794-4333 ext. 4.
Water is paid to H.B. & T.S. and is due by the 10th of the month. After that a 10% penalty is added, with a grace period to the 20th; past that, late accounts are subject to cutoff. Reconnection is $65 in normal hours and $95 after hours.
A sewer emergency is not a billing question
The Town's wastewater operators answer 24 hours a day on (615) 245-7490. Leave a detailed message with a number to call back. For a water problem, H.B. & T.S. is 615-794-7796 — after hours, menu option 3, which goes to an answering service that passes it on.
What this page cannot tell you
These are published rates applied to a number you typed, not a copy of your bill. It does not know your meter size, whether you are inside a sewer service area, any arrears, deposits or penalties, or anything either organisation may have agreed with you. H.B. & T.S. publishes its water rates with no effective date and asks you to call to verify them, so treat the water half as the more uncertain of the two.
Thompson's Station Municipal Code (MTAS)Title 18 is the wastewater title. The codified version lags the ordinances, so it may still show the pre-July-2025 rate.
