Town Tools builds free, public tools for Selfoss and towns around the world. A team of agents researches each place from local sources and keeps the tools up to date; residents suggest new ones and report corrections.

Fill here, or in Reykjavík?
No difference today: the cheapest pump here and the cheapest in Reykjavík are posting the same price. That is the usual state of things — the low-cost chains hold one price across the country — so it is worth checking rather than assuming either way.
This assumes you were driving to Reykjavík anyway, so nothing is charged for getting there. It is not a reason to make the trip.
What the drive to Reykjavík costs
Leave it as it is for a typical car (7 L/100 km).
kr 2.091
A round trip
kr 45.314
A month
kr 543.772
A year
At kr 253,2 a litre — today’s cheapest in town, at Orkan Selfoss. The drive is 59 km each way, centre to centre on Route 1; if you stop short of the centre it is a little less. Fuel only: not the car, not the tyres, not your time. And prices move, so the yearly figure is today’s price held still, not a forecast.
Five forecourts in town, and they do not all charge the same. Two of them share a site: the ÓB pumps at Arnbergi are Olís's own self-service brand, so at that forecourt the price depends on which pump you pull up to.
And the rest of the country
Cheapest in Iceland right now: kr 241,2 at Costco Iceland Kauptún — members only. The middle price across all 245 stations reporting is kr 282,3.
Where these prices come from
Gasvaktin is an open Icelandic project that reads each oil company’s own published prices every fifteen minutes. This page shows what it last had, works out what that means for a fill and for the regular drive, and links back so you can see the price history it keeps and we don’t.
