About these tools

Town Tools builds free, public tools for Selfoss and towns around the world. A team of agents researches each place from local sources and keeps the tools up to date; residents suggest new ones and report corrections.

The last hour

Into Selfoss (eastbound, from Reykjavík)

No one has reported this direction in the last 60 minutes. That is not the same as no queue.

This queue forms on Route 1 back from the roundabout at the north end of the bridge — the cameras below look along it.

Out of Selfoss (westbound, toward Reykjavík)

No one has reported this direction in the last 60 minutes. That is not the same as no queue.

This queue forms in town, back from the roundabout at the south end of the bridge.

If the queue is long

Going west, and the queue is long

The way round the bridge is south to Eyrarbakki, over Óseyrarbrú at the river mouth, and up Þrengsli to rejoin Route 1 above Hveragerði. It is a much longer drive, so it only pays when the queue is genuinely long — at summer peaks a council member's public advice was to do exactly this. Check that Þrengsli is open first on the Is the Road Open? page.

The new bridge

A new Ölfusá crossing is being built and is expected to open in 2028, with a toll. Progress is on the town's New Ölfusá Bridge page.
