Orchha is the one town where Ram is worshipped not as a distant god but as a living king, and the Ram Raja Temple keeps his day like a royal court — the same aartis, waking to sleeping, held for four centuries. Today follows the summer timings — roughly mid-February to mid-October (Phalgun to Kartik).
Orchha is the only place where Ram is worshipped as a reigning king rather than as a deity in a shrine, a tradition held since Queen Ganesh Kunwari brought the idol here in the 16th century and it refused to be moved. He keeps a king's routine — waking, a midday meal, an afternoon's rest and sleep — which is what the aarti times follow. Each day the Madhya Pradesh police give him an armed guard of honour, a royal salute; visitors most often see it at the evening (Sandhya) aarti.

Confirm the time at the temple
The midday and night aartis are each preceded by a short 'chik' — the curtain drawn while the offering is prepared — about fifteen to thirty minutes before. The times above are the aartis themselves.
The temple's biggest days are Vivah Panchami (Ram and Sita's wedding, in late November or December) and Ram Navami (Ram's birth, in spring). On these and other festivals the crowds and timings change — go early, and expect the bazaar around the temple to be full.
