Two things are worth knowing before you travel. Cornwall’s network was revised on 26 July 2026: no Newquay route number changed, but times did, and the 85 now also serves Treloggan. And since 4 September 2026 a one-way system on Cliff Road for the Mid Cornwall Metro works has put services heading towards Newquay on diversion via Trenance Road — they cannot call at Newquay Railway Station or Tolcarne Beach, and miss Trenance Gardens, Newquay Zoo, Hilgrove Road and Barrowfield Hotel on the way in. Buses leaving Newquay are unaffected. Transport for Cornwall expects this until 31 March 2027, so expect delays in and out of the bus station and check your stop before you set off.
The train: the Atlantic Coast Line to Par
Newquay’s branch line runs to Par, where you change for the main line to St Austell, Truro, Plymouth, Exeter and London. Since the Mid Cornwall Metro upgrade opened on 17 May 2026 there’s a train about every hour — the best service the town has had in decades — and the trip to Par takes about 50 minutes. In the summer months some trains run direct between Newquay and London Paddington.
Great Western Railway runs every service; check live times before you travel. Note that the station’s bus stop is not being served while the Cliff Road one-way system is in place.
