Lautoka Municipal Market fills the block along Naviti, Vakabale and Yasawa streets, between the bus station and Sugar City Mall. Its sections keep different hours, and that is the part that catches people out: most of the market is shut on a Sunday, but the fish market opens for the morning, and the cooked-food market at Namoli Green does not close at all.
The farmers — mostly women, travelling in from the highlands of Navosa through to Wainibuka and Ra, and from 14 provinces in all — sell from Wednesday afternoon to Saturday, at the New Wing, the Market Triangle and the market corridors. That is the stretch of the week when the choice of produce is widest.
Wheelbarrow help for carrying produce is available during market hours, there is parking on two levels at Sugar City Mall, and the market and bus station are covered by 57 CCTV cameras and a police post.

Namoli Green cooked-food market
These are Lautoka City Council's own published hours, not a promise about today. Individual vendors open and pack up around their section's hours rather than exactly to them, and the council's table does not say what happens on a public holiday — so ring the council on 666 0433 before making a special trip on one.
If everything else is shut, the cooked-food market at Namoli Green is the backstop: warm food, hot drinks and pastries around the clock, Sundays included. One male and one female public convenience at the market also stay open through the night at no charge. The user-pay conveniences cost 20c and close earlier — the Main Market's at 5 pm, the bus station's at 9 pm and Sugar City Mall's at 5.30 pm.
Open 24 hours a day, every day of the week, Sundays included. Cooked food here is seafood and vegetables — the council's listing says no meat. Fresh fruit juice and Indian sweet-meat carts are at Namoli Green too, and in the Lautoka City Mall corridor.
Vegetables, root crops, fruit and dry goods: bele, rourou, ota, moca, bora, dalo, cassava, kumala, vudi and yams, with garlic, onions, potatoes, dry fish, spices, eggs and honey. Mangoes, guavas and mandarins come and go with the season. Shut on Sunday.
Mats, tabua, magimagi, tanoa and wood carving, with masi, garlands, handbags and earrings. On the Main Market's hours, and shut on Sunday.

The fishermen's market, and the only section the council opens on a Sunday — then it is the morning only, 7 am to noon. Fish, crab, lobster, kai and sea grapes. It also runs latest of any section on a Saturday, to 7 pm.
One of the places the visiting farmers take when they come in from Wednesday afternoon to Saturday — the Market Triangle and the market corridors are the others. Open an hour later than the Main Market through the week, and to 7 pm on a Saturday.
The stalls at the bus station, on the Main Market's hours. Shut on Sunday, so a Sunday traveller passing through has the fish market until noon and Namoli Green at any hour.
The council's mini-market outside the city centre: 68 stalls worked by 34 vendors. The council says it serves until late in the afternoon and that it is open on Sundays, but it publishes no opening times for it, so they are shown as varying rather than guessed at. Ring 666 0433 before a late trip.
