Radiators in most Košice flats don't have a switch you control — heat arrives through one of Slovakia's biggest district-heating networks, and the law says when the season opens and what the weather has to do before the heat flows. This page does that arithmetic on the live forecast, so 'when does the heating come on?' has an answer you can see coming.

It runs 1 September – 31 May — about 5 weeks until it opens.
District heating here is supplied by TEHO — Tepelné hospodárstvo Košice.The city-owned distributor that runs heat to the buildings; generation is the former TEKO plant, part of state-owned MH Teplárenský holding (MHTH) since 2022. 24-h fault line: 055/6360 999.

“Below” and “above” are against the 13 °C threshold; days marked “forecast” are model predictions, not readings.
The heating season runs 1 September – 31 May — that’s the decree’s “as a rule” window.
Within it, the supplier starts supplying heat when the outdoor average day falls below 13 °C on two consecutive days and the forecast doesn’t expect the next day’s average back above it.
It may interrupt heating when the average day rises above 13 °C two days running (with the same forecast caveat), and resumes once the start condition is met again.
The law’s “average day” is not a 24-hour mean — it weights the 9 pm reading twice: (7:00 + 14:00 + 2 × 21:00) ÷ 4, measured in the shade.

Hot water is a separate duty: the same decree requires it daily from about 5:00 to 23:00 all year round, heating season or not. A cold tap in July is an outage, not a season thing — check the TEHO and MHTH notice pages below, and the neighbour-report board on this site.
The 2025/26 season: TEHO began supplying heat just after midnight on 26 September 2025, and MHTH announced the seasonal shutdown on 18 May 2026. The 2024/25 season lasted 221 days. The window is fixed, but inside it the switch follows the weather — some Septembers the radiators warm mid-month, others in October, and a warm spell can legally pause heating mid-season.
The decree's 'average daily temperature' is not a plain 24-hour mean: it is the 7:00, 14:00 and 21:00 readings averaged with the evening one counted twice — (7 h + 14 h + 2 × 21 h) ÷ 4 — because a day that stays warm into the evening needs less heating than its noon peak suggests. This page computes exactly that formula from the forecast model's hourly values.
