Twice a year Košice puts veľkokapacitné kontajnery — big open skips — out on named streets for a few days at a time, so households can clear out old furniture and other things too big for the ordinary bin. Type your street and this page will tell you which days one stands near you, and what else is coming to your mestská časť. In 2026 the spring round ran 17 March – 1 May and the autumn round runs 15 September – 16 October.

What goes in a veľkokapacitný kontajner
Old furniture — beds, wardrobes, sofas, armchairs, chairs, kitchen units
Carpets, parquet and wooden flooring, wooden battens
Green waste from the garden — leaves, grass, branches
Break it down first. KOSIT asks for bulky items to be minimised before they go in, so the container holds what the street actually needs it to hold
What does not go in a veľkokapacitný kontajner
Sorted waste — paper, plastics, metals, drink cartons, glass. Those have their own containers all year
Kitchen waste and bio-waste, unless a notice on the container says otherwise
Anything that will not fit. Leave it at a zberný dvor instead of beside the container

These cause fires in a loaded container, and the load has to be refused.
The yards are for people with trvalý pobyt in Košice. Bring your občiansky preukaz; if you own a flat here but are registered elsewhere, bring the city's decision on your waste fee instead.
Summer hours (1 April – 30 September): Monday to Saturday, 7:00–18:00. Winter hours (1 October – 31 March): Monday to Friday 9:00–17:00, Saturday 8:00–15:00.
Lunch break 12:30–13:00 all year, and every yard is closed on public holidays.
Not for businesses, tradespeople, building firms, flat-owners' associations, schools or municipal offices — staff are not allowed to take waste from them.

To ask for one on your street: KOSIT drives the lorry but does not choose the stops: the mestská časť decides which addresses get a container, in agreement with the city. To ask for one on your street, write to your miestny úrad rather than to KOSIT.
Worth knowing
The container arrives in the afternoon of its first day and goes in the morning of its last, so neither of those is a full day.
Do not fill a container to less than 30 cm below its top edge — KOSIT asks for that so the load can be taken away safely.
Do not leave anything on the ground beside a full container. KOSIT can only clear that once the city orders the clean-up separately, so it sits there in the meantime.
The two rounds of the year usually stop at different house numbers on the same street, so check the address, not just the street name.
