Nobody publishes whether the road out of Haputale is open. In the rain that is the thing everyone needs to know, and the way it travels now is by phone call.

Through Viharagala to where the A16 meets the A4. A landslide closed this stretch at Uda Viharagala in October 2023, and again during the November 2025 cyclone.

How this works
These are neighbours, not an official service, and an empty board means nobody has reported — never that the road is clear. For a landslide warning the NBRO and the Disaster Management Centre are the authority: call 117. If a road is blocked right now, or anyone is in danger, call the police on 119. If you are told to move, move.

Closure history from Sri Lankan press reports of October 2023 and November 2025.
