kilolitres (kL)
≈ 10,000 litres
Your WUC bill shows the meter reading at the start and at the end of the month; the difference is the kilolitres you used. One kilolitre is 1,000 litres — fifty 20-litre buckets.

Water is your metered usage at the rates above. There is no standing charge on top of it.
WUC charges wastewater on the same number of kilolitres as your water, in the same blocks, at the wastewater rates.
Water Utilities Corporation bills Francistown homes on a stepped tariff: the first 5 kilolitres of the month are cheap, and every block after that costs more per kilolitre than the one before. So the last few kilolitres of a heavy month cost far more than the first few.
Put in how much water you used and this page works out the bill on WUC's signed tariff sheet — the one in force since 1 April 2025, after the government cut household water tariffs. If your home is connected to the town sewer, the wastewater charge is added on the same volume.
An estimate, not your bill
This is a guide, not your actual bill. Real bills depend on your meter size, your exact metered use, and any adjustments or programs you qualify for. Check your bill or the city for the exact figures.
Why the bills keep rising
VAT is already in these prices
WUC publishes its rates with VAT included, so nothing is added on top here. The first 5 kilolitres of a household’s month carry no VAT at all, which is part of why that first block is so much cheaper than the rest.
Each block is charged only on the water that falls inside it. At 10 kL a month, the first 5 cost P2.45 each and the next 5 cost P11.41 each. At 25 kL, the last 5 cost P38.69 each — nearly sixteen times the first block. A dripping tap or a running toilet adds to the top of your bill, where water is dearest.
Worth knowing
WUC’s own online calculator gives different figures
We checked WUC’s bill calculator on its website against its signed tariff sheet on 14 October 2026. They do not agree: for 10 kL with wastewater the calculator gives P104.70, while the sheet works out at P85.90. The calculator’s water figures match the rates before the April 2025 cut. This page follows the signed tariff sheet, which is the document WUC says took effect on 1 April 2025.
If your actual bill disagrees with this page, WUC’s bill is what you owe — but a difference you can point to on the tariff sheet is a good starting point for a query.
What this page is not
It is arithmetic on WUC’s published tariff. It cannot see your meter, your arrears or an estimated reading. A bill based on an estimate rather than a real reading can be much higher or lower than your use; the meter readings printed on the bill tell you which it was.
