Éowyn blew the gable wall out of a house in Dingle and left around 25,000 ESB customers in Kerry without power, some for days. At the end of a peninsula on rural single-line electricity, a multi-day outage is a realistic outcome of a Red warning — worth having torches, power banks and water put by before the wind arrives.
Only the N86 through Annascaul and Lispole and the Conor Pass connect Dingle to the rest of Kerry. The pass is single-track in sections, closed to vehicles over 2 tonnes beyond the summit car park, and shuts in bad weather — so one fallen tree or flood on the N86 can cut the town off for buses, trucks and deliveries until it is cleared.
