The Quebec Creek fire came within about 10 km of Upper West Dawson in June 2025, with roughly 100 homes on evacuation alert, and Dawson switched to diesel backup power after transmission lines were de-energized. The Mount Leotta fire nearly doubled in size the same week. Fires do reach the edges of this community — the official channels below are where evacuation decisions arrive.
Most Dawson-district fires are started by lightning and burn in country with no road access, and crews leave some remote fires to burn under watch. A fire listed as "out of control" is a fire behaviour label, not an evacuation signal — it means the perimeter is still growing, not that town is threatened.
