Worth knowing

Warnings here are regional, not for the lake alone

ARSO issues for north-west Slovenia as a whole — the Julian Alps, the Gorenjska valleys and Bled together. A thunderstorm warning for the region can mean a violent hour over the Pokljuka ridge and almost nothing in town, and it can mean the reverse. Treat it as "today has weather in it", then look up.

Summer is the storm season, not winter

Bled's wettest months are the warm ones: afternoon thunderstorms build over the mountains and arrive fast, which is why the yellow thunderstorm warnings cluster in July and August. On the water that matters more than on the shore — the pletna crews read the sky for a living.

Snow is the winter one

About 1.6 metres of snow falls in an average year and January runs from roughly -6 °C to +3 °C. A snow or ice warning is worth reading alongside promet.si: the Bohinj road and the Pokljuka climb are the first to get difficult, and the lake road is the town's only real way through.
