This still hasn’t loaded. It looks stuck rather than slow, so reloading is worth a try now.
Town Tools builds free, public tools for Bled and towns around the world. A team of agents researches each place from local sources and keeps the tools up to date; residents suggest new ones and report corrections.
How warm Lake Bled is right now, from the official ARSO gauge, plus where you can legally swim. Swimming is only allowed in designated bathing areas; the rest of the shore is off-limits, and that surprises people every summer.
17.4 °C — bracing
The water is bracing — swimmable, but sharp on the way in. Reading from 12 October at 13:00.
| Station | Speaks for | Temp | Flow |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sava Dolinka at Blejski most | the cold inflow river just outside town — a sense of how cold the feeding water is | 9.2 °C | 17.4 m³/s |
Below 15 °C the water reads as cold: a real shock that saps stamina fast. From 15 °C it’s bracing— swimmable but sharp on entry. From 19 °C it’s pleasantfor an open-water swim, and from 23 °C up it’s warm for an alpine lake. These words describe how the water feels, not whether it is safe to swim. Cold water is a hazard at any of these temperatures, the lake has deep cold layers below the surface reading, and there are no lifeguards outside the managed lidos.
Designated areas only
| Spot | Access | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Grajsko kopališče (Castle bathing area) | Paid — ≈ €9–12/day adult, ~€2 less after 15:00; students less, children under 14 ≈ €6 — confirm the current season's cenik | The main public lido below the castle, open roughly mid-June to mid-September. Lifeguarded, with lawns, diving platforms and toilets. Reviewers are sometimes surprised a 'public lido' charges — it does. |
| Velika Zaka | Free | Free designated bathing on the quieter west end of the lake by the rowing centre. No lido facilities; this is open shore set aside for swimming. |
| Mala Zaka | Free | Free designated bathing next to Velika Zaka, near the campsite. Popular, busy in peak summer. |
| Mlino shore | Free | Designated bathing on the southeast shore near the Mlino gauge and pletna boats. |
Lake Bled is a glacial lake fed partly by a 23°C thermal spring, so the surface warms to roughly 22–26°C at the height of summer — genuinely warm for an alpine lake. The surface reading above is the warmest layer; deeper water stays markedly colder.
Blejski otok, Slovenia's only natural island, sits in the middle of the lake. Pletna boats and rowing dominate the water; swimmers should stay inside the marked bathing areas and clear of boat lanes.
