What is falling on the town right now, for comparison — this is the least useful group for warning, because by the time it is raining here the upstream water is already on its way regardless.
DID Sarawak's iHydro portal publishes rainfall at named gauges across the state, division by division, updated hour by hour through the day. It measures what falls at one instrument, at one spot — it says nothing about how much of a hillside drained into the river, and nothing here adds gauges together to guess a total. A gauge with no reading yet today has simply not produced one; it is not the same as a gauge that measured zero.
DID Sarawak publishes each gauge's rainfall hour by hour and fills in the hour still running as it goes, so the newest figure can be a part of an hour rather than a finished one — the reading time beside it says which. A gauge with nothing yet today is not silent; its day may simply not have produced a reading yet.
DID Sarawak's own flood record gives the same cause again and again: continuous rain upriver meeting a king tide in town. This page only ever shows the first half. The tide dates are published a year ahead by the department; nothing on this page reads them.
Long Busang and Long Jawe sit on the upper Rajang above Kapit — rain there takes days to reach Sibu. By the time it is raining hard in the town itself, the water that will actually raise the river here already fell somewhere else, days ago.
Every number on this page is a measurement from an instrument at one spot, for one hour that has already happened. It is not a forecast, it is not a flood warning, and it cannot tell you whether a street, a home or a torrent is safe. Rain at a gauge and water in a culverted stream are not the same thing: the stream gathers rain from the whole slope above it, including ground no gauge stands on.
