Shirakawa-gō has no train — every way in and out is by road, and most visitors come by bus from Takayama, Kanazawa or Nagoya. The buses are the easy part. The hard part is getting back: the last departures leave in the late afternoon, and several routes are reserved-seat only. For exact times, always check the operator.
