Take-home pay after tax
Type the gross pay from a job offer or payslip and see what reaches your account after PAYE, worked through Botswana's 2026/27 tax bands — with BURS's own worked examples checked on the page.
A job offer in Botswana is quoted gross, and what reaches your account is that figure less PAYE — the income tax your employer withholds every pay day. Type the gross figure from the offer or the payslip and this works out the tax the way BURS's own 2026 tables do, band by band.
The 2026/27 tax year, which started on 1 July 2026, added a sixth band: income above P400,000 a year is now taxed at 27.5%. Below that, the bands are unchanged — the first P48,000 a year is still tax-free for a resident.
Work out your take-home pay
Only a contribution to an approved fund comes off your taxable income, and only up to 15% of it. That means a pension, provident or retirement-annuity fund licensed under the Retirement Funds Act — your payslip or HR will say whether yours is one.

Checked against the tax office’s own examples
The tax office publishes worked examples with its tables. This page runs each one through the same arithmetic as your figure, so you can see the two agree.
| Pay | Tax office says | This page says | |
|---|---|---|---|
| BURS Tax Table 2026, Example 3 | P 18,000 a month | P 2,337.50 | P 2,337.50 |
| Example 4 (the new top band) | P 34,000 a month | P 6,354.26 | P 6,354.17 |
| Example 6 (paid fortnightly) | P 4,000 a fortnight | P 165.38 | P 165.38 |
BURS's printed monthly table rounds its top band to start at P33,333 a month, so above that figure a payslip can differ from this page by a few thebe. Below it the two agree exactly.
What this does not take off
Botswana has no compulsory employee social-security or national pension deduction, so on most payslips tax is the only line the law requires. What this page does not know about, and your payslip may show: medical aid, union dues, a loan or store-card repayment, and any benefits in kind (a house, a car) that your employer adds to your taxable pay. If your employer has a directive from BURS (form ITW 5) telling them to withhold differently, the directive wins.
