Sedona is an International Dark Sky Community — the whole town keeps its outdoor lights warm, shielded and pointed down so the Milky Way stays visible.

Sedona earned International Dark Sky Community status in 2014 — the 8th in the world — and residents defend it. The city's lighting ordinance keeps light warm-coloured, shielded and aimed downward, which is why you can still see real stars from inside town on a clear, moonless night.
Clouds and the summer monsoon can still close the sky, and this page can't see the weather — pair it with the forecast before you drive out.
