How the zones and the Ready, Set, Go system work
SR-179 and SR-89A meet at the Y and are the only ways out of Sedona. In a fast-moving fire, officials evacuate zone by zone to keep those roads from gridlocking. Knowing your zone number — and your neighbours' — turns a panicked scramble into a plan. The 2024 evacuation-plan meetings were poorly attended; this is the two minutes that matters.
Ready: prepare now — review your plan and pack a go-bag. Set: be ready to leave at a moment's notice — pack the car, bring in pets, and leave early if anyone needs more time. Go: leave immediately by the route officials give. Most days every zone reads Normal — no order — which is exactly when to get ready.
Sedona straddles the Yavapai–Coconino county line, and both counties coordinate evacuations across it. Your evacuation zone is the city's number regardless of which county your parcel sits in — but the responding agencies and the shelter you're sent to can differ, so follow the specific instructions in the order.
