Prince George's garbage collection runs on five coloured zones, and your zone decides which day your cart goes out. Type your address to see which zone you're in — then read your dates on the City's calendar. The colours are the same ones the City uses for emergency evacuation zones.
On these days there is no curbside collection. Around a holiday, collection dates can shift for the rest of the week — check the City of Prince George garbage calendar for your zone’s exact dates.
An average of 35 bears are destroyed in Prince George every year, many drawn to garbage carts. City bylaw requires garbage to be kept in a bear-resistant location such as a garage or shed, and only put out on collection morning. Remove other attractants — bird feeders, fallen fruit, pet food — and keep the BBQ clean. Bear Smart tips are at princegeorge.ca/wildlife.
The City will not collect carts that are overflowing. Keep all garbage inside the cart with the lid completely shut. Carts are tracked by an RFID system that also photographs carts that are broken or overflowing.
Leave at least 2 metres of clearance on all sides of the cart, including from parked cars and recycling bins, so the automated truck arm can reach it.

Households choose a cart size, billed annually: about $192 for a 135 L cart, $253 for 250 L, and $306 for 360 L. Contact the City to change your cart size.
The City deliberately matched the emergency evacuation zones to the garbage collection zones, so the colour you see here is the same one used in wildfire and flood alerting. Where a boundary follows a street, it runs down the centre of the street. Sign up for emergency notifications through the Regional District's Public Alerting System.
