Open water is not a pool
Belfast Aquatics — Port Fairy's only indoor, year-round, all-abilities pool — closed in November 2025 after mould and structural problems were found, and on 26 May 2026 Moyne Shire Council voted to decommission and demolish it. Repairs had been estimated at more than $3 million.
Alongside that decision the council prepared a Moyne Aquatic Facilities Strategy 2026–2036, tabled on 30 June 2026. It recognises the shire needs a year-round indoor facility and recommends a feasibility study into a new indoor pool for Port Fairy and district — focused on the things a bigger centre doesn't cover: warm-water therapy, hydrotherapy, learn-to-swim and community wellness for an older population. Nothing is funded or built yet; the strategy and its consultation are the place to follow it and have your say.
