Milton Keynes has 270 km of redway — a segregated network for bikes and people on foot that runs alongside the grid roads and through the linear parks, mostly separate from traffic. The city's own maintenance programme resurfaces a handful of stretches a year, chosen partly from what residents report.
What stops a rider on a redway is rarely the thing that stops a car. It is a flooded underpass after heavy rain, glass, a broken or lifted surface, or vegetation grown across the width. This board is riders and walkers telling each other which routes are like that right now.
