Tap your area when the lights go out and see whether it is just your house or the whole area — plus VUI's own lines, and why a long cut empties the water tanks too.

This still hasn’t loaded. It looks stuck rather than slow, so reloading is worth a try now.
Town Tools builds free, public tools for Luganville and towns around the world. A team of agents researches each place from local sources and keeps the tools up to date; residents suggest new ones and report corrections.

VUI supplies Luganville’s electricity and publishes no outage notices, no alerts page and no website — so when the lights go out there is nothing to check and no way to tell a blown fuse in your own house from a feeder that has dropped for the whole street. This board is neighbours telling each other. Sign in, tap the area you are in, and the board shows where else it is out.
It is worth doing even when you already know your own power is off, because the answer a neighbour needs is the one you have: whether it is just them.

These reports come from neighbours, not the power company. Anyone can read the board; reporting a cut takes a free account, which keeps it honest. A report clears itself after about 12 hours, so the board stays current on its own. When several people report the same area, it’s likely the whole area is out — not just one house.
Reporting a fault to VUI
Vanuatu Utilities & Infrastructure Ltd has run the Santo grid since 2010 and holds a 20-year concession from 2019. The Department of Energy publishes three lines for its Luganville office — 37140, 37141 and 37142 — and they are office lines rather than a 24-hour fault desk. VUI is not UNELCO, which supplies Port Vila. When nobody will say why the power is off, the Utilities Regulatory Authority regulates VUI and takes consumer complaints on 23335; it keeps a branch office on Ave Pasteur Road here in town, opposite the Vanuatu Family Health Centre.
A long power cut here becomes a water cut. The whole piped network runs off one borehole in the Sarakata floodplain, and its pumps run on mains electricity around the clock — so an outage stops the pumps, the storage tanks drain within hours, and because they leak they are slow to refill afterwards. After inspecting the network in October 2024 the Utilities Regulatory Authority found communities here going without water for weeks following power cuts. So if the power has been off a while, fill what you can while the tap is still running, and the water board on this site shows where the taps have already gone dry. The Department of Water Resources runs the supply from Port Vila on 22423 or 33435 and publishes no notice of cuts.
