Antwerp and Ghent filter out older cars with a low-emission zone; Leuven does not, and none is planned. The city's approach is to shift trips to bikes and public transport instead — 60% of the historic core has been a cycle zone since 2020. The readings on this page are the scoreboard for that choice, not a warning about a policy that is coming.
IRCEL-CELINE's own network has no fixed measuring station inside Leuven — the nearest are at Steenokkerzeel, about 18 km west, and Aarschot, about 17 km north-east, which is why third-party sites that claim to show "Leuven" air quality are usually just relaying Aarschot's reading. This page instead reads the interpolated European model for the town centre itself, which is a modelled estimate, not a station reading — for the same reason, treat any single hour with more caution than the day's overall trend.
