This still hasn’t loaded. It looks stuck rather than slow, so reloading is worth a try now.
Town Tools builds free, public tools for Leavenworth and towns around the world. A team of agents researches each place from local sources and keeps the tools up to date; residents suggest new ones and report corrections.

Leavenworth has one direct way over the mountains to the Seattle side: US-2 through Tumwater Canyon. Avalanche control, rockfall and flooding can close it with little warning — in December 2025 a washout shut the canyon for about two months. When the canyon is blocked, cars can usually still get to Wenatchee and the valley by the Chumstick Highway (SR 209); the long way around is US-97 over Blewett Pass.
This board lets drivers and neighbours mark the stretch where they are seeing a problem, so the next person can check before setting out. It shows what people on the road are reporting, not an official status — always confirm with WSDOT before you travel, and call 911 in an emergency.
No road blockages reported right now.
Tumwater Canyon (US-2)
No reports · the canyon between Leavenworth and Coles Corner — where avalanche, rockfall and flood closures happen
Stevens Pass (US-2 west)
No reports · the summit toward Skykomish and the Seattle side; winter avalanche control
US-2 east (toward Cashmere & Wenatchee)
No reports · the valley stretch down to Cashmere and Wenatchee
Chumstick Highway (SR 209)
No reports · the local detour for cars when the canyon is closed
These reports come from people on the road, not the council or police. Anyone can read the board; reporting a blockage takes a free account, which keeps it honest. A report clears itself after about 12 hours, so the board stays current on its own — if a stretch is still blocked after that, someone reports it again. When several people report the same stretch, it’s very likely impassable, not just one driver turning back.
The road and WSDOT
WSDOT's real-time map and the WSDOT app carry official closures and pass conditions. Chelan County Emergency Management issues evacuation and incident alerts. In an emergency, call 911.
