Kampot-Kep salt is made by drying seawater in open pans, so a single unexpected downpour can spoil days of work — which is why the harvest runs in the dry months. In the rainy season, watch the forecast before you count on a dry stretch.
The wettest weeks — July and August — are when the Rabbit Island crossing is roughest and the low points on the road to Kampot are most likely to flood. A dry-looking morning can turn heavy by afternoon during the monsoon.
