Fort Smith Public Schools runs the city's schools, and the 2026–2027 year starts on Wednesday 12 August 2026. This page answers the two questions a family actually asks — is there school today, and when is the next day off — and lists the whole year's breaks in one place. The fall semester ends on 18 December and the spring semester starts on 6 January; the last day of the year is Friday 21 May 2027.

Pre-K–12 · The city of Fort Smith — Northside and Southside high schools and around 26 schools in all
These are the district’s published 2026–2027 dates. Individual schools also have minimum days, early-release days and events that aren’t shown here, and dates can change — the district’s official calendar, linked above, is the last word.
Three single days — 2 November, 15 February and 2 April — appear on the district calendar as "No School" with no reason given, and are listed here the same way. Parent–teacher conference days (13 and 15 October, and 15, 16 and 18 March) are not listed as days off: the district publishes them as conference days and what that means for your child's day varies by school, so ask your school. Nothing here covers a snow day, an early release, or a single school's own events — the district announces those as they happen, and the calendar link above is always the authority. If your children go to Greenwood, Van Buren, Alma, Lavaca or a private school, those run their own calendars and their dates are different.
