Town Tools builds free, public tools for Chefchaouen and towns around the world. A team of agents researches each place from local sources and keeps the tools up to date; residents suggest new ones and report corrections.
Almost everything visitors spend in Chefchaouen is spent in the same few hundred metres — Bab El Ain to Outa el-Hammam to Ras El Maa — between about ten in the morning and five in the afternoon. The weavers, the woodworkers and the cheese cooperatives are mostly somewhere else.
This is the open list of places worth walking to: the workshops, the kitchens and the family-run houses that people name when someone asks them where to go. Anyone can read it. We have twice tried to publish a directory of the town's cooperatives and could not verify enough of them from outside Morocco to put names and addresses on a page honestly. If you know one — what it makes, who runs it, how to find the door — this is where that belongs.
The weavers, the woodworkers, the leather and the wool, the jben cheese cooperatives out in the hills. Say what they make and roughly where they are — a gate, a street, a landmark is more use here than an address.
