When a town joins and we do not yet have its language, its pages go up in English and a note is left saying why. The gap in that: when the language arrives later — usually because another town asked for it — nothing goes back and reads that note. It had happened four times. Klaipėda was reading English a day after Lithuanian arrived for Kaunas. Cheonan stayed on English when the two other Korean towns moved across. Heidelberg had simply never been switched. All three now read their own language, and there is a check that finds the next one: it compares each town's language against the ones its country actually uses, and only flags a town when we can already serve one of them. It is careful about the towns where English is a real choice — Geneva reads French, and towns in Kenya and Tanzania where English is co-official are left alone. Eight more towns are on the list and are waiting on translation rather than on the decision: Aarhus, Eindhoven, Cochem, Giethoorn, Hallstatt, Reine, and Leuven and Chefchaouen where the right language is a genuine question. They stay in English until their pages can be moved across whole, because a page that is most of the way into Danish is not better than one that is honestly in English.
Egypt raised household electricity prices from the July consumption month — about 12% on every band except the first, which is frozen. The calculator here is still showing the April figures, and now says so on the page instead of quietly serving them. The reason it has not been updated is worth stating plainly. EgyptERA has not republished its table: the link to the current tariff from the regulator's own home page returns a 404, and no replacement page has appeared. The newspapers carrying the new rates do not agree with each other — one prints 1.00 EGP for the 101–200 band, another 1.06, a third 1.064, and that last one is simply 12% applied to the old rate rather than a published figure. On a page that tells you what your bill will be, that difference is real money. So: read the total as roughly a tenth low, and the band boundaries and the way crossing one reprices your whole month as unchanged. The moment the regulator publishes, this page gets the real numbers.
Alexandria's drainage figures are published every winter — 32,000 gullies, 66 sea outfalls, 155 suction tankers on standby. The one thing nobody publishes is which streets are actually under water, and that is the thing you need before you set off. So there is now a board where neighbours say. Five spots drawn from coverage of past storms: Abu Qir Street and Freedom Road, Smouha with the Cleopatra and Ibrahimia bridges, the Al-Mandara tunnel, the Corniche, and El Raml and Sporting around the Children's Hospital. Tap one to say whether it is dry, whether the water is rising, or whether it is flooded. Reading takes no account; reporting needs one. Reports fade after twelve hours, so the board keeps itself current. Being on the list does not mean a street is flooded now — only a report says that. Almost all of Alexandria's rain falls between October and March, so the board will be quiet until the first nawwa. It is here before it, not after. The page also carries the numbers, which are easy to mix up: 114 for the governorate operations room, 175 for sewerage, 125 for drinking water.
The search box on the food hygiene tool suggested a chip shop that was not on any council's register, so anyone who typed it got nothing. The example is now part of each town's configuration and has to be something genuinely on that authority's list — Linthorpe Road in Middlesbrough, Market Street Chippy in Wigan.
The caddies and red-lid bins finished being delivered at the end of June, and the new collections began on 30 June — weekly food waste, fortnightly paper and card. The tool says that plainly now, and gives the garden waste subscription price.
The tool was showing the council's statutory 'basic amount' — a borough-wide average that includes parish precepts — instead of the charge most homes actually pay. Band D is £2,548.05 for 2026/27, not £2,549.16. Nunthorpe and Stainton & Thornton now have their own option, with their parish precepts added on top.
Search any takeaway, café, pub, shop or school kitchen and see the council's official 0–5 rating and the date it was inspected. It reads the Food Standards Agency's own register, so it is never more than a day behind. All 1,159 registered businesses are in it.
If you have tried a bin collection lookup on this site and it said it could not reach your council, it may not have been your council.\n\nOur lookups pass through a chain of requests to each council's own system, and we were not carrying the session between the steps — so councils that use one particular system rejected every lookup as though we had signed out. It affected 18 of the 137 councils covered, and the way the page fails politely meant it looked like an outage rather than a bug.\n\nIt is fixed, and lookups now work for Kirklees, Tendring, East Suffolk, Milton Keynes, Plymouth, Crawley, Salford and Stockport among others. One town had already been turned down for a bin tool on the strength of the broken lookup; it can have one now.
Danish is the thirteenth language on the site. It was added because Copenhagen arrived last week and had to be set to English — a Danish city reading English about its own bins and parking zones. The site chrome, the tool chrome, the component library and the town page are all in Danish now; the long tail of tool-specific wording follows the usual pattern of arriving as each kind is first used by a Danish town.\n\nThree new kinds came out of this week's builds and are available to any town that needs them: a studded-tyre charge calculator, which works out whether a day, month or season permit is cheapest for the days you actually drive; a water-temperature board that reads live readings per bathing spot and never averages them into one number for a city; and a resident-parking fee model for cities that price a permit by zone, vehicle and applicant at once.\n\nParking tariffs can now carry different rates by time of day, so a stay that crosses six o'clock is priced correctly on both sides of it, and a city's own zone map can be drawn from its published boundary data.
Walthamstow has three tools from today. All of them are filed under Waltham Forest as well as Walthamstow, because that is where the rules live and searching the wrong one of those two names gets you nothing.\n\nBin collections works from your postcode, because the council sets collections street by street rather than borough-wide. Council tax shows what each band costs in 2026/27, who levies it, and the discounts and support you can claim — including the part that is easy to miss, that working-age council tax support is capped at 85% and only for households in particular circumstances.\n\nWhich market is on today answers a question the internet gets wrong. Walthamstow Market is shut on Sundays and Mondays — but the Farmers' Market and the Sunday Social Market both trade on the same High Street on a Sunday.
The town-bus timetable tool can now say "train". It was built for village buses and it works just as well for a small railway with a short published timetable — except that every sentence on the page had the word "bus" welded into it, and "Next bus" on a railway page is wrong in every language. Fixing it properly meant more than swapping a noun. In Swahili, "basi" and "treni" belong to different noun classes, so the words around them change too: a bus is "Basi lijalo" and a train is "Treni ijayo". A tool that slots one noun into a shared sentence would produce a grammatical mistake on its first use. So each vehicle now carries its own set of sentences in each language, and a test checks that a train page never says "bus" in any of them. The Swahili wording for this tool was written from scratch at the same time — the first Swahili page the kind has served.
Opuwo now has the school and hostel dates on one page. Namibia runs a single national calendar for government schools and hostels, and for a family out in Kaokoland the hostel half is what decides a journey: the day a learner has to be at the hostel, and the day they have to be fetched. Both are now on the page, with the weekday for each, alongside a plain answer to whether school is on today. The 2026 terms run 12 January – 28 April, 1 June – 20 August and 7 September – 4 December. Hostels open the Sunday before each term and close on the term's last school day — so Term 2's hostels close on Thursday 20 August and reopen on Sunday 6 September. The dates are the Ministry of Education's own published calendar. The ministry's page is linked and is the last word; if it and this page ever disagree, please tell us.
Two changes this week that outlive the towns they were built for. **Lithuanian.** The site now serves Lithuanian, which matters immediately for Kaunas — 304,000 people whose pages about their own parking and their own weather warnings had been in English. Klaipėda and Šiauliai can follow whenever someone does the same pass for the kinds they run. **A new tool kind: the works queue.** Some councils publish a ranked, scored list of the street works they intend to fund, and then publish it somewhere nobody looks — in Kaunas's case as a spreadsheet attached to a council decision on the national legal-acts system. The new kind shows a resident where their street sits, what it scored, how much money is queued ahead of it, and which way it has moved since the last edition. It is deliberately careful about what it will not say: a street leaving the list is never called finished, because nobody publishes what was actually built. It should fit any municipality that scores and ranks its capital works this way, which is common across central and eastern Europe. **Also this week:** a German bin calendar that now prices the bins it already knows about, and a fare planner that understands a cap running for a calendar month rather than a day.
Short answer: nothing, this year. The page now names West Surrey Council — Guildford with Runnymede, Spelthorne, Surrey Heath, Waverley and Woking — and notes that its shadow council was elected on 7 May 2026 and first met on 21 May but runs no services yet. Guildford Borough and Surrey County carry on until 31 March 2027, and the 2026/27 figures were re-checked against the council's own table.
The flood-watch page still described the Environment Agency's Guildford scheme as being in appraisal with two to three years of surveys ahead. It has moved: the outline business case went to government on 5 June 2026, after the January information events, and covers around 750 properties from Millbrook to Ladymead. If it is approved the next steps are detailed design and planning permission. No construction date has been published, so warnings and preparation are still the defence.
The link to the council's tariff board had gone dead — the borough has moved its charges onto a page per car park — so every source on the page was re-checked against those. The calculator now knows the rules it previously only described: arrive after 6pm and it is a flat £2.10, after 10pm it is free, and Farnham Road is the exception on both counts because it charges 30p an hour right through the night. Height limits are shown too, which matters at Tunsgate and Leapale Road, and Millbrook is running on reduced spaces until 31 October while the National Trust works on the weir.
Guildford is covered by two councils and neither handles everything, so the page starts with which one you actually want: the borough for bins, car parks, planning and council tax, the county for roads, street lights, schools and social care. It also carries the out-of-hours numbers most people only look for once it is dark — flooding and sandbags, emergency housing repairs, the social-care duty team — alongside Thames Water, 105 for a power cut, Floodline, the Royal Surrey and South Western Railway.
The 'tell me when this town is ready' signup shipped just before Korean became a supported language, so its words had no Korean version. Written now, rather than left in English on the one form that asks for an email address.
The second kind on the platform to offer per-person email reminders, after the UK bin day tool. An address is only kept while its reminders are running, and it is deleted when the last person unsubscribes.
A catchment map on its own reads like a guarantee, and an admissions table on its own is unreadable without knowing which row is yours. The new kind joins them: a postcode gives the catchment school, and beside it the authority's own figures for the last round — places, preferences, refusals, and which criteria the places were allocated on. It finds each year's figures through the council's open data portal rather than a fixed link, so it moves on by itself when the next round is published. First use: York.
We had band D at £2,287. The council's own charges page says £2,269.91 for the parts of York without a parish council, and we have replaced our whole band table with the published one. We have not built a council tax tool yet: the council publishes the total but not how it splits between the city, adult social care and the two mayoral precepts, and the mayor's own page has not filled its figure in.
Look up your address on the bin day page and you can ask for an email before every collection — the evening before, or early on the day. It names each container going out, and it follows ROVA's own dates, including any change for a public holiday. Free, one message per collection, and you can stop from any email.
Type your postcode to see the catchment secondary school for that address, from the council's own map. Beside it, what happened in the last round at every York secondary: how many places there were, how many families named the school first, how many were refused, and which criteria the places went on. Five schools refused nobody in 2026; Huntington filled with one place going on distance. Applications open on 12 September and close on 31 October. A catchment gives you priority, not a place — and you always have to apply.

Fog and visibility figures were rendering in feet and miles on every town's page regardless of country; they now follow the same country rule as every other measurement on the site. Parking prices were printed without thousands separators, which is hard to read in any currency and unreadable in one where everyday prices run to five digits.
School meals reads a national open API and decodes the allergen numbering into words. Evacuation shelters publishes a designated-shelter register with rated occupancy and finds the nearest ones to you, without your location leaving your browser. The taxi estimator works out a compound distance-and-time surcharge, and says so plainly where the published tariff is silent about how two surcharges combine.
Korean is the eleventh language town pages are written in. Chuncheon and Gumi are the first two towns to use it, and neither city has any English-language local media — so until now every tool we could have built for them would have been in a language their residents did not ask for.
