Every map on the site — recycling points, playgrounds, shelters, pharmacies, bike docks — drew its pins as a dot fourteen pixels across. On a phone that is about a third of a fingertip, so tapping the one you wanted was partly luck. The dots look exactly the same today; the area that answers your thumb is now much wider. The pins also say which place they are when a screen reader reads them out — until now every pin on the site said "map marker". Phone numbers, email addresses and one-tap map links are easier to hit too, which matters most on the pages where six of them sit in a stack. None of this changes how anything looks. It came out of a new check that opens every page on the site at phone width and measures whether each thing you can tap is big enough to tap — so a page that drifts back under the line will now be caught before anyone meets it.

Polish joins the fifteen languages Town Tools already renders in, and Kraków and Warszawa are the first two towns to read it — together the largest pair of towns on the platform. Three new pieces of machinery came with them: a checker that answers whether your own vehicle may enter a clean transport zone, an air quality page that reads a town's own reference monitors rather than a model, and live river levels from Poland's national hydrology service.
The flood-zone checker was written for Westminster, California, and it kept four of Westminster's sentences in its code rather than its config: the example address in the input box, the hint when what you typed did not parse, the suggestion to add a ZIP code, and one line of the shaded-Zone-X explanation. Damariscotta, Maine has been running the same tool and showing three of them. The failure messages are the ones that mattered, because the only person who reads those is already stuck. They now use the town's own example address and city, and name whichever address lookups were actually tried. A test asserts that no flood-zone explanation names a town. The pattern is worth stating: a tool kind built for one town keeps that town's sentences, and they are invisible from the town that wrote them. They hide in the empty and error states, which nobody reads while building.
Type an address and the page reads the zone straight off FEMA's current map for Oktibbeha County — high-risk, moderate, or outside the mapped areas — and says in plain words what that means for insurance. The page is as careful about what the map does not say. FEMA draws its high-risk line around creeks and rivers: inside the city that is Sand, Hollis, Josey, Glen, Catalpa and Trim Cane. Starkville's other flooding is rain arriving faster than the drains take it, on flat ground, and that is not on the map — every point we checked in the middle of campus comes back as minimal hazard, on ground that heavy storms have put water into. The map itself has been in effect, unchanged, since 17 February 2010. Addresses are looked up in the city's own address list first and the federal geocoder second, which matters here: the national one misses rural roads and private lanes, and outside the city limits is where a flood question is hardest to get answered. Nothing you type is saved.
On 24 July 2026, at its session in Busan, the World Heritage Committee decided not to move the Ohrid region to the List of World Heritage in Danger. Our history page had been left saying the town was one step from it. The named threats have not changed: unauthorised construction, shoreline damage, wastewater and ecosystem protection.
Potpeš and Partizan were the wrong way round against the published June sampling round: Potpeš is graded Class I, not Class II, and the Partizan resort beach is Class II, not Class I. Both are still swimming quality — the health authority recommends Class I and II — but the page now matches what was published. Grašnica remains the one beach graded below swimming quality.
It was built for the six weeks of Ohrid Summer and would have gone blank after 25 August. It now carries the Ohrid Water Festival running to 30 August — including the swimming marathon from St. Naum on 22 August and the Balkan open-water championship on the 29th — the October folklore week, St Clement's day on 8 December and New Year's Eve, with the municipality's own events calendar linked underneath.
The pages that work out how you should pay for travel — in Tartu, Kaunas, Šiauliai and now Karlsruhe — used to open with six questions and put the answer below them. They now lead with the cheapest option and what it costs, and the same figure shows on the town page when the tool is pinned. Two additions underneath: a ticket's price can now differ by how far it is valid rather than only by who you are, and a ticket sold only to students or pensioners can finally be listed as exactly that.
A map and list of Vista's working craft breweries, grouped into the two pockets they actually cluster in: a couple of taprooms an easy walk from Vista Village, and a working cluster out in the business park worth a dedicated stop. This replaces the brewery-trail page that went up broken last month and had to come down — the earlier attempt tried to register a tool kind before any code for it existed. Eleven breweries are on it, each checked against its own site this week; two others that used to be part of Vista's brewery scene, Iron Fist and Latitude 33, have since closed and aren't included. Hours change often, so each entry links out rather than guessing at them.
Indonesian is the sixteenth language the site speaks. Town pages, tool pages, the navigation, the loading notices, the share and correction forms — all of it now renders in Indonesian for a town whose residents read it, and the towns themselves have moved: Kota Salatiga and Kota Magelang, both in Central Java, were approved reading Indonesian and served English until today. Two new things came with them. `bmkg-forecast` reads Indonesia's national meteorological agency at kelurahan resolution — BMKG publishes a three-hourly forecast for every neighbourhood in the country, and a town of twenty-three kelurahan is twenty-three separate readings rather than one for the whole city. And the "is the bus running" tool learned two things from Kota Magelang's free student angkot: that a free service can still have conditions attached to who may ride it, and that most small-town transport on earth has no live tracker at all — which is now something the page says out loud rather than leaving a reader to keep looking for a map that does not exist.
Tools that answer by looking something up — an address, a street, a postcode, an item you want to throw away — were putting the whole written explanation above the box you type into. On a phone that meant the box was often just off the bottom of the first screen, and on the worst page it was more than two screens down, under two paragraphs that both told the reader to type their address. Forty-one of those tools now show the box first. Nothing was deleted: the explanation still renders, one block lower, where it reads as notes on the answer rather than a preface to it. The neighbourhood tips pages made the same move. They used to open with a note explaining accounts, moderation and how to report something — most of a phone screen of housekeeping in front of the first question people came to read. That note now follows the answers, and the one thing worth knowing before you act ("adding a tip needs a free account, and accounts are free") is where it always was, on the sign-in line next to the box you would type into. There is also a new measurement behind this. The page checks we run at phone width could already ask whether a page answers before you scroll and whether tapping a button changes anything visible, but neither could see a tool whose only question is a text box. That is now measured on every tool page, which is how the forty-one were found.
SMART publishes a departure board for every timetabled route, and we were only reading the opening hours off the front page. So the page said "7 a.m. to 8 p.m." when the honest answer for the Connector, Central and South is once an hour. Each route now carries its own line: how often it comes, its first and last departure, and which stop those times are read from. Starkville East, which was missing from the list entirely, comes every 20 minutes and stops at 6 p.m.; the three MSU campus loops publish no times at all, which the page now says instead of leaving you looking. SMART's own holiday table also lists two closures our list did not have — Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and Good Friday. On both of those the page would have told you the buses were running. It also carries the Christmas break: from 23 to 31 December the campus routes do not run and the city routes drop to 8 a.m.–5 p.m., with Christmas Eve ending at 2 p.m. The page now knows all of it and works it out against the day you are reading on.
Municipalities across German-speaking Europe have already modelled every roof in their area and published the result as open data. The new solar-cadastre kind reads one building out of it and does the arithmetic in the open — every assumption on the page, the reader's own electricity price, no quote and no sales pitch. First use is Aachen, over 231,020 roof faces.
Thousands of cities publish an open ArcGIS service with an address-point layer and a set of boundary layers, and then only expose it as a search box inside a map. The new address-districts kind reads them by point-in-polygon: collection routes, wards, precincts, districts. First use is Fort Smith, twice. A boundary must declare in config what it means when no polygon covers you — outside the collection area and outside the city limits are different facts.
Read against the City's own Residential Guide: accepted plastics are 1, 2 and 5 — not 1, 2, 4 and 7; yard waste is collected weekly, not every other week; branches go up to 4 feet long and 3 inches thick, not 8 feet by 1 foot; and the brush haul-away has published prices. Added the holiday rule, the free walk-out service for elderly and disabled residents, where glass and electronics actually go, and Project Concern for households struggling with the bill.
Tap your part of town when the lights go out and see whether anyone else has — the question OG&E's map takes a while to answer. Same six areas as the water board. Reporting the outage to OG&E on 800-522-6870 is still what gets a crew.
One address gives your ward and its director, your polling place and its address, and the state, county and school-board districts that decide the rest of your ballot — read live from the City's ward map and the County's precinct map. The mayor and all three at-large positions are on the 3 November 2026 ballot, alongside the change-of-government measure the Board put there on 18 August.
Type your address and it reads the City's own sanitation route map: which day all three carts go out, and the next three dates. Collection runs Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday — Wednesday is kept clear so a collection falling on a public holiday can move there.
New Zealand's Queenstown Lakes District Council publishes its own live road-status service for council-controlled roads that the national state-highway feed doesn't cover. Any similarly-shaped town can now reuse it.
No live congestion feed exists for the valley's most-complained-about corridor, so residents now report how the drive actually is right now, alongside the BP Roundabout rebuild's official updates.
Live GeoNet feed, with the Alpine Fault's current 50-year rupture probability and the region's own quake history for context.
Reads QLDC's own road-status feed for the district-controlled pass to Wānaka and Cardrona — the one lifeline road the state-highway feed never covered.
Zambia's capital joins the platform with three tools grounded in what changed and what's still true: the current status of ZESCO's nationwide load shedding (suspended since June 2026, tied to Kariba's water level — not the 2024 answer search engines still return), a neighbour-reported board of what market staples actually cost this week, and a plain explanation of why the rainy season brings flood and cholera risk here, with what to do about it.
The storm-closure warnings on the rain outlook and getting-here pages cited a November 2025 storm as their example of what heavy weather does to Gjirokastër's access roads. A more recent and more serious event had happened since: in January 2026, flooding from the Fiço stream reached the historic centre itself and closed both the Gjirokastër–Kakavijë and Gjirokastër–Valarë roads, with several families evacuated. Both pages now cite it.
Two honest walking routes through the old town: the classic climb from the Old Bazaar past the Bazaar Mosque and Zekate House up to the castle, and a gentler loop through Palorto's stone houses — Ismail Kadare's childhood home, the Skenduli House, and the Ethnographic Museum. Real timing, real gradient, and which doors keep informal hours, aimed at older residents and visitors alike on streets with no step-free alternative.
The town page now opens with a colored-pencil drawing of a December morning on the vegetable terraces at the edge of town: white frost over the carrot and bean rows, tea bushes on the slope behind, and the Doddabetta ridge under mist. It is the plateau's signature weather — the same night that brings visitors up to photograph the frost dries out a grower's crop.
Every tool's wording lives in a table with one row per language, and a row nobody has translated yet holds the English text with a short note above it saying so. A check reads those notes and tells us which towns are reading a language they did not ask for. It was only looking at the first and last line of each row. Three hundred and eighty-seven of those notes are written somewhere else inside it — so the check had been reporting nothing to fix while there was something to fix. Paramaribo's water board was stamping every neighbour's report with an English "5 min ago" in the middle of a Dutch page. That is now in Dutch. The check also reads the words themselves now, not just the notes about them: a row with no Amharic script in it, or one whose sentences are plainly English, gets found whether or not anyone remembered to write the note. It turned up ten more rows waiting for a translation. None of them is on a live page today, and they are on the list.
Pick a date in the next three months and it works out how full the centre is likely to be, from the rhythm of the week, the season, and the festivals and races that fill the town on their own — and it names the calmest day coming up. The season windows come from the local hospitality association and from the municipality's own 1 July – 31 August ban on building works in the lakeside zone. It is a pattern from published dates, not a count of anyone.
"What will parking cost?" grew from three sample car parks to all fourteen public pay lots, each with its real rule — the first-hour-free lots, the €2.50 all-day options back from the lake, and the 2- and 4-hour limits that push a lot down the list once you're staying longer than it allows. Rates verified against the municipality's official price list.
The pinned child care tool now shows the number of licensed centres and how many are in the $10-a-day program right on the town page, instead of a plain card.
