On a page like "How busy is Sedona?" each of the next thirteen days was a small coloured dot, and the word for it — quiet, steady, busy, packed — only appeared if you rested a mouse pointer on it. A phone shows no such tooltip, so finding the quiet day meant opening every day in turn, and a reader who cannot tell green from red had nothing at all to go on. Each day now carries a small four-bar meter, filled up to how busy it is, with a key beside the strip. The month-by-month strips on flowering, wildlife and market-price pages got the same treatment: a bar under each month whose height is the level, a key that finally shows which colour is which, and a full written description of the pattern for anyone using a screen reader.

Oulu has road-weather stations standing on the Baana cycleways themselves — Kembaana, Maikkulan baana and Linnanmaan baana — measuring the snow lying on the path, how cold the surface is and the dew point every fifteen minutes, each with a camera pointed along the path. Nobody was reading them. This page does, with the city's own clearing clocks beside them and the count of maintenance passes logged in the last 24 hours. When the surface is at or below freezing and the dew point is above it, the page says so: that is the condition that turns a dry-looking path into ice. Three instruments cannot speak for 900 km of path, and the page says that too — the neighbour-reported board is still where you tell each other what a route is actually like.

The Roads Department of Georgia posts every restriction and every reopening as a news notice, mixed in with every other road in the country. This page reads those notices and keeps the ones about the road here: Zugdidi to Mestia and on to Ushguli, the Khaishi branch to Chuberi and Nakra, and the Lentekhi back road over the Zagar pass. Restrictions appear in the Department's own words, with the kilometres they cover and the date they were posted. Nothing is standing today. One thing worth knowing: the Department posts restrictions and reopenings, never a running all-clear, so a stretch with nothing on the page is one it has said nothing about — not one it has confirmed clear. The flood watch page said the Avonmouth and Severnside scheme cost £100 million. The planner behind pages like Shirakawa-gō's open houses assumed one national rule: when a weekly closing day falls on a public holiday, the venue opens and closes the next day instead. Shirakawa-mura turned out to publish three different rules within one village, including two venues that close the day BEFORE the holiday. It now reads each venue's own rule, handles a closing day that only applies for part of the year, and says plainly which places have no fixed closing day at all. The health-facility finder was also made reusable outside the country it was written for, and now speaks Portuguese.

Pick a date and the page says which of them are open, what each costs and when they close — handling the three different public-holiday rules the houses actually follow, the Minka-en's winter-only Thursday closures, and the five houses with no fixed closing day at all. Everything else in Ogimachi is somebody's home, and the page says so in the village's own words. One thing worth knowing before you set out: the official English pages currently show the old, lower prices at four of these houses.

Until today, a web address on this site that didn't exist — a town name spelled slightly wrong, a link to a page that has since been renamed, a stray character on the end — didn't say so. It answered as though the page were fine and then showed a loading message that never finished. If your phone had already loaded the site's code you'd get the "not found" page a second later; if it hadn't, or if you were on a poor connection, you'd sit and watch it load. That's now fixed at the root: a wrong address says so straight away, in the page itself, before anything else has to load. It also does something more useful than apologise. Town pages have long web addresses because every town in the world needs its own — Heidelberg's is /heidelberg-baden-wurttemberg-de. Nobody types that. So if the address looks like a town, the page now offers the ones it looks like: type /sagada or /warszawa and it points you at Sagada and at Warsaw. And if you've followed an old link to a tool that's been renamed or taken down, it names the town, says which page is missing, and links you to that town — where everything it does have is listed.

The first reads a local government's own accreditation lists live and lets anyone check a name against them, offering close spellings rather than a flat no — because a blank result about a named person is easy to misread. The second pairs a bill calculator with a neighbour-reported board of what people are charged per unit, for places where no official tariff is published.

Put in the rate you are charged per unit and how much you used — or two meter readings — and it works out what that costs you a month and over a year. Underneath, neighbours can add what they are charged, so there is finally somewhere to see whether your own rate is normal for Kep. There is no official Cambodian rate on the page, and the page says why.

Type any name and this checks it against the municipality's own accredited lists — 231 guides, 176 places to stay and every permitted travel agency — read straight from the tourism office's register. If a name is not there, the page offers close spellings first and then says plainly what a blank result does and does not mean. ZINWA's own dam-level table went unreachable in late July and answered again this week. Every apartment building of three or more storeys or 10 or more units must register with the City's RentSafeTO program and get evaluated at least once every two years. Since an October 2025 bylaw update, every one of them must also post a green, yellow or red sign near its entrance showing the result. These are pages you read on a phone, often outside, and some of their words were set too pale to read comfortably in daylight — a faint grey date, a "recommended" label that vanished the moment you tapped it, a month letter on a calendar strip you could see was marked but not read. None of it was visible from the code, because a colour that reads fine on a white page can fall below the readable line the moment it sits on a tinted card or a coloured strip. So we built a check that looks at every page the way an eye does — the real colour of each piece of text against the real colour behind it — and measures it against the accessibility standard (WCAG AA). The first run found 420 places across 22 kinds of tool, and we fixed all of them: past bus and school-term times you can still read, calendar strips whose month letters now stand out, a bus-map arrow that adapts to its route colour. The check now runs before we ship, so this stays fixed.

Two changes that reach every town running these tools. A residents' parking permit page now opens with the amount in force today — on the town dashboard as well as on the page itself — computed from the same published schedule the calculator underneath uses, so a legislated increase arrives on its own date. And a bathing-water page whose grades are curated rather than read from a feed can now carry the authority's sampling season: out of season it says plainly that nobody is testing the water, instead of pointing at a daily warning that stops being published.
