Most visitors pair Kakum with the Cape Coast and Elmina castles in one day — it is about 45 minutes north by road. Kakum is a walk-in park: you buy a ticket at the gate and a park ranger takes you across the canopy walkway. What follows is how a visit actually runs, so you arrive knowing what to expect.

Come early for the forest, and for the quiet
A tropical rainforest reserve about 33 km north of Cape Coast, famous for a canopy walkway of seven rope-and-plank suspension bridges strung roughly 40 metres above the forest floor. The park is run by the Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission; the walkway is maintained by the Ghana Heritage Conservation Trust.

These figures come from recent visitor and tour reports, not from an official Wildlife Division price list we could confirm, so treat them only as a guide. Prices move with the exchange rate and are usually higher for the canopy walkway than a plain gate entry. Carry extra cedis in cash — cards are not reliably accepted.
Drive or ride in and buy your ticket at the gate. There is no online booking, and none is needed.
The canopy walk is done with a park ranger, in a group — you are not sent out alone. On a busy day you may wait a short while for a group to gather.
The walkway is seven linked suspension bridges, about 330 metres in all, high in the forest canopy. The bridges are netted at the sides. It is a short walk, but not one for anyone with a serious fear of heights.
There are guided forest walks on the ground too, for birds and butterflies, if the canopy alone isn't enough.
