Street sweeping is when Boston tows the most cars. Search your street to see how often it's swept — which side, which block, and the next scheduled day — so you can move your car the night before, not chase a tow truck the morning after.

The daytime programme runs April 1 to November 30 in most of Boston. In the North End, South End and Beacon Hill daytime sweeping carries on into winter — it stops only in January and February. A few main and commercial streets are swept year-round, often overnight. Overnight sweeping keeps running on City holidays; it is the daytime routes that are cancelled, with no make-up day.
A private company tows for street sweeping, not the City. State-capped rates are up to $132 for the tow plus $35 for each 24 hours it sits there, plus a fuel surcharge. To find out which company has your car, call the Boston Police line on 617-343-4629; the City's own tow lot is 617-635-3900.
