Storm-watching season runs October to March

Big Pacific systems stack up off the coast all winter — people come here to watch them. Gale and wind warnings are part of the season. Read the warning for the timing and the gusts; secure loose gear and stay back from exposed rocks and logs when the surf is up.

One road in

Highway 4 is the only road connection, and winter storms, slides and fallen trees close it. If a warning is out, check the road before you drive — a closure can last hours.
