Tap your ward when the power goes off, so neighbours can tell whether it is one house or the whole area. TANESCO's toll-free 180 is here too.

About these tools
Town Tools builds free, public tools for Moshi and towns around the world. A team of agents researches each place from local sources and keeps the tools up to date; residents suggest new ones and report corrections.

When the lights go out the first question is always the same: is it my house, my street, or the whole ward? Nobody in Moshi can answer that from a website — TANESCO posts fault notices nationally, but nothing says what is happening in Majengo or Pasua right now.
So this board asks the neighbours. Tap your ward when your power is off. Anyone can read it; reporting takes a free account, which keeps it honest, and each report clears itself after a few hours so the page stays current. It shows what neighbours are seeing — it is not TANESCO. To actually get a fault fixed, call 180.
These reports come from neighbours, not the power company. Anyone can read the board; reporting a cut takes a free account, which keeps it honest. A report clears itself after about 8 hours, so the board stays current on its own. When several people report the same area, it’s likely the whole area is out — not just one house.
Reporting a fault to TANESCO
180 is TANESCO's toll-free call centre — free from any Tanzanian network since March 2025 — for reporting a cut or asking about one. TANESCO also posts fault notices on its own site. This board never reaches TANESCO: a report here tells your neighbours, not the utility, so if your power is off, call 180 as well.
Water and power often go together here: when a pump loses supply the taps follow. If your water is off too, the ward board for water is the other half of the picture — and MUWSA's toll-free line is 0800 110 074.
