Every place in Middlesbrough that serves or sells food — the parmo shops, the cafés, the pubs, the corner shops, the school and care-home kitchens — is inspected by the council's own food safety officers and given a rating from 0 to 5. The ratings are public, and this page reads them straight from the Food Standards Agency's register, so it is never more than a day behind.

What the rating does and doesn’t tell you

The rating covers how food is handled, the condition of the building and equipment, and how well the business manages and records food safety. It is not a verdict on the food itself, the service, the price or how allergens are handled.

It is a snapshot of one inspection on one day, and the date is shown beside every result. A business that has put things right can ask for a re-inspection, and a new rating replaces the old one.

Middlesbrough Council's food safety team has around 1,150 businesses on its books — not only the ones you order from, but school and care-home kitchens, market stalls and mobile caterers.
Parmo shops are almost all filed under "Takeaway/sandwich shop". If a place spells its name in a way you can't guess, searching the street it's on usually finds it faster.
"Awaiting inspection" means the council hasn't visited yet, usually because the business is newly registered. It is not a low rating — but it isn't a good one either, because there isn't one.
Putting the green-and-black sticker in the window is voluntary in England. A place with a good rating may not display one, and a missing sticker on its own tells you nothing. The register is the reliable answer.
