How this works
This is people who happened to be standing there, not a count. An empty board means nobody has reported yet — not that the village is quiet. Hallstatt has about 760 residents and took a record 1.2 million day-visitors in 2025, most of them staying only a few hours, and the mayor's own description of the pattern is that Christmas and New Year now feel like high summer. The busiest stretch on a summer day is roughly late morning to mid-afternoon, when the coaches and the trains land together. For a week-ahead view rather than a right-now one, the crowd calendar on this site is the better page.
