When a storm hits
Glace Bay's warnings are mostly winter ones — blizzards, winter storms, snow squalls, freezing rain and wind off the Atlantic. The February 2024 nor'easter brought a CBRM state of emergency with forecasts up to 150 cm of snow. When a blizzard or winter storm warning is up, expect the storm-day questions: is collection cancelled, are the roads closed, where can I charge up.
From late summer into fall, the tail of the Atlantic hurricane season reaches Cape Breton. Hurricane Fiona (September 2022) tore down poles and roofs and left 65,000+ Cape Breton customers without power, with the army deployed to Glace Bay for cleanup.
