The DWD warnings service now shows its page wording in the town's own language — English for English-language towns, German for German ones — while always carrying the official warning text unaltered. This let Cochem run the same live feed as Bacharach without switching the town to German.
The Deutscher Wetterdienst's official warnings for storms, thunderstorms and heavy rain around Cochem, carried word for word, with the wind on the Mosel and the official channels. It covers the risk the river gauge can't see — a cloudburst on the Endert that floods before the Mosel rises.
A plain-words read on how much smoke and haze is in the Yackandandah valley today, hour by hour — the companion to the fire pages when bushfire smoke drifts in, and a watch on woodheater smoke on still winter nights. With no EPA monitor left near town, it is modelled from the atmosphere forecast, and says so.
"Is There a Fire Near Danniyeh?" reads NASA's satellites for heat in the forests around town over the last couple of days — a way to notice a fire early in the dry months, with the Civil Defence line (125) to report one. It shows where satellites saw heat, which is not the same as a confirmed fire, so it points you where to look rather than replacing the fire service.
What to do when a big earthquake hits the coast: the natural warnings, drop-cover-hold and how to evacuate, which parts of town are low-lying, and how to find your evacuation zone. On this coast the quake is the warning — long or strong, get gone. It's a safety reference, not a live alert.
A new flat-fare tool prices a single shared ride where a flat per-person fare is the local transit, with a per-person breakdown, a plain explainer of how the system works for newcomers, and the fare's history so annual changes are predictable. First used for Iqaluit's shared taxis; reusable for any town where a flat per-head fare stands in for a bus.
A new booking-window tool works out when a service's reservation window opens for your travel date, shows the official face fares by class, and explains how to avoid paying a scalper. It's pure date arithmetic — it plans a booking, never makes one, and shows no live availability. First used for Sri Lanka Railways at Ella; reusable for any advance-reservation service whose seats sell out fast.
There is no public bus in Iqaluit — a shared taxi at a flat per-person fare is the transit. Set how many riders and see what one shared cab costs, with the current fares (standard $9.75, elder 65+ $8.00, children under 10 free), how shared cabs work for newcomers, and how the fare has changed each May so the next rise is no surprise. The fare is set by City by-law; confirm it with the operator if in doubt.
The town page now opens with a colored-pencil drawing of the wide, dry, braided bed of the Santa Clara River winding through the valley below the chaparral ridgelines that ring it.
The town page now opens with a colored-pencil drawing of the ruined flint walls of Reading Abbey standing among the trees of the Abbey Quarter, with the River Kennet and a low footbridge below.
The weather-alerts tool can now read Malawi's Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services CAP feed (public domain), so any Lake Malawi town can show official lakeshore warnings — Mwera winds and heavy rain — filtered to its own shore.
A flat loop through the colonial old town and the working harbour, and the steep climb up the Nut — each with honest timing, effort grades and local etiquette (including how to watch the Godfreys Beach penguins without disturbing them or the neighbours).
Official DCCMS warnings for Nkhata Bay and the Lake Malawi shore — Mwera winds over the water and heavy rain — shown as the weather service issues them, unaltered. It is not itself an alert service: when a warning is in force, ask at the harbour and wait for the wind to drop before you travel by water.
The flood-gauge tool reads live river levels from NOAA. We added a safety net to its data checks so a missing-data placeholder, or a forecast the weather service has withdrawn, can never be shown as if it were a real river level.
When a buyer names a price for your goat, sheep or head of cattle at the Isiolo yard, this new page turns it into what it actually buys — kilos of maize (and 90 kg bags), litres of milk, kilos of beans — and shows how it sits against the price the last county drought bulletin reported at the Isiolo market. If the offer is well below that going price, you can see it, and it may be worth pushing back or trying another buyer or market day. A good price is one that feeds your family, so the tool speaks in food, not just shillings. The prices come from the National Drought Management Authority's monthly bulletin — they are averages for the month, not today's price, so a single sale runs above or below them: use the number as a guide and agree the price at the yard. It uses only the figure you type, and nothing is saved.
Traders bringing yam, maize, tomatoes or cassava in from the villages around Techiman now have a page to work out whether the trip pays before they load. Pick what you are carrying, set the load in the unit you trade in — a 100 kg bag, a crate, a hundred tubers — and put in what you buy for, the lorry cost, the market fees and the price you expect at Techiman. It shows your profit, your profit on each bag or crate, and the lowest Techiman price that still covers the trip — the number to weigh a buyer's offer against. It carries a dated wholesale price guide from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to check against, but the sums use only the numbers you type, and nothing is saved. Prices move every market day, so it points you to the floor, a trusted contact or the radio for today's price, and reminds you to agree the lorry cost before you load.
Two reusable tool kinds joined the platform this week. 'Dusk view' scores the odds a town's signature sunset view is clear over the coming evenings; 'winter parking ban watch' reads the snowfall forecast against the level that triggers a city's parking ban. Both read the keyless Open-Meteo model, keep a calm state when the forecast can't be reached, and defer every warning and official decision to the proper channel.
A new tool reads the snowfall forecast and tells you whether it could cross the 7 cm that leads the City to call an overnight on-street parking ban — so you can move your car before it's towed. It never says a ban is on: only the City declares one. It runs in the ban season (15 November to 1 April) and, outside it, plainly says no ban can be called now.
A new tool scores the odds, for each of the next seven evenings, that Jiufen's red-lantern view over the Pacific will be clear at dusk — not lost to ridge fog or rain — and picks the evening with the best chance. It reads a weather model (Open-Meteo) for the 5–7pm window; it describes the odds, never promises a clear sky, and sends weather warnings to Taiwan's Central Weather Administration.
A new tool kind reads the Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (Conagua) daily forecast for any Mexican municipality at its exact coordinates — keyless official open data, one shared national fetch. It can now be added to any Mexican town.
A live page of Environment Canada's warnings for Lunenburg County, the wind at the harbour right now, and who to call for power, roads and emergencies — including the Town's own electric utility for outages. It covers the whole year: winter storms, wind and rain, not just hurricane season.
A new tool kind reads a municipality's official public notices from KOOP's national open-data register (public domain) and lists the most recent ones, newest first, each linking the authoritative page. First used for Giethoorn; reusable config-only for any Dutch town.
A calm, always-current list of the official public notices that touch Giethoorn — permits, road and water closures, plan hearings and ordinances — read live from the Dutch national register (officiële bekendmakingen). Each notice links its official page, and the tool points you to overheid.nl's 'berichten over uw buurt' to get notices for your own address.
The buses in and out of Dingle — Bus Éireann's 275 from Tralee and the Local Link 276 from Killarney — showing which need no booking and, above all, the last bus back, so a day trip doesn't end stranded on the peninsula. It leaves the exact minute-times to the operators and keeps the Conor Pass honestly flagged as no road for buses or big vehicles.
Our tide tool can now show tides for coastlines anywhere in the world, using a global tide model, for places where we can't reach an official national tide service. The highs and lows are worked out from the model and clearly marked as estimates rather than an official table. The first town to get it is Pichilemu, on Chile's surf coast.
A new tool tells you whether it's worth heading out for the northern lights over Whitehorse tonight — NOAA's space-weather model, the hours of real darkness and the season, in plain words. Through the summer the sky doesn't get dark enough, so it comes into its own from about mid-August; it pairs with the daylight tool as the long nights return.
A colored-pencil drawing of the old frontier fort on the bluff where the Poteau meets the Arkansas River, with the wooded Ouachita foothills beyond.
A colored-pencil drawing of the river bend that named the city, curving past the long brick Studebaker works and the East Race channel.
A colored-pencil drawing of Guildford's Norman castle keep on its grassy motte, above the town where the River Wey and the Wey Navigation cut through the North Downs.
A colored-pencil drawing of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal at Wigan Pier — the brick warehouses and the old iron coal-tippler beside the towpath, with a mill chimney on the skyline.
A colored-pencil drawing of the 1945 suspension bridge over the Ölfusá — the crossing that turned a ferry point into a town — with the riverside town centre on the far bank and the ridge of Ingólfsfjall beyond.
Pick your valuation band (A–H) to see this year's charge, what it works out to a month, and how it splits between Leeds City Council, the adult social care precept, the police and the fire service. It covers the 2026/27 figures for the main unparished area and all 31 town and parish councils. It's a plain sum over the council's published figures — nothing you pick is saved.
Forecast rainfall on the long roads in and out of Birdsville — the early look at whether an approach is about to be cut, two days back and a week ahead. It's a weather-model estimate, not a road-closure call; the official road reports decide.
How full Lake Isabella is right now — its live daily storage as a share of gross pool, and which way it's moving — read from the state's Data Exchange Center. A full reservoir isn't a promise of water in the channel through town; the tool says so and links the dam operators.
Reservoir-storage reads a reservoir's live daily fill from California's Data Exchange Center; road-rain shows forecast rainfall on the roads into a town two days back and a week ahead. Both leave the decisions to the official sources they link. Road-condition boards can now hold reports for up to a week, for remote roads that stay cut for days after rain.
A reusable er-board kind compares the live stretcher occupancy of every emergency room in a region, from an official health-ministry feed, with the emergency-first and not-your-wait-time rails built in. First use: Montréal (Québec's MSSS feed).
A reusable pass-report kind reads WSDOT's Mountain Pass Conditions feed — the official chains and closure status for a summit — for any Washington town reached over the passes. First use: Leavenworth.
A new tool reads WSDOT's own report for Stevens Pass (US-2), Blewett Pass (US-97) and Snoqualmie Pass (I-90): whether each summit is open, whether traction tires are advised or chains are required, and whether it's closed — updated through the day in winter. It sits beside the snow forecast and the neighbour-reported US-2 board, and always points back to WSDOT for the final word.
Reserved seats on the hill railway open exactly 30 days before travel and can sell out within minutes. Enter your travel date and this tool shows when your booking window opens, the official face fares by class, and how not to overpay a scalper — you never need to. It plans; it doesn't book, and it doesn't show live availability, so confirm on the official site. Check the train-status board first: after Cyclone Ditwah only the stub service via Ella is running.
A new water-restrictions kind reads France's official VigiEau feed (Ministère de la Transition écologique, open data) and shows the drought restrictions in force at a commune in plain language — the current level, which everyday uses are limited for households and farms, and the governing prefectural order. First instance live in Eguisheim; a drop-in for any French town.
A live day-by-day rain forecast for Kep, set against the two seasons — so you can plan the Rabbit Island boat, the road to Kampot, or a dry stretch for the salt pans. Reads the Open-Meteo forecast and shows what the monsoon means here.
