Hahndorf's old town is a State Heritage Area, where a repaint, a street-facing fence, a shed or a demolition can need development approval that a house outside the area wouldn't — and every application is referred to Heritage SA. Pick the job you have in mind to see whether it generally needs approval, then check your own property on SAPPA and confirm with the council. It's a plain-English starting point, not a decision.
Damariscotta is where Maine oyster farming began, and the twelve-mile river the town sits on still grows about 80% of the state's farmed oysters. **The Damariscotta Oyster Trail** is a new page that gathers the real, public ways to taste that — whoever you are. There are four: buy them straight from the source at Glidden Point's farm store upriver in Edgecomb (you can shuck your own); ride out past the farms on the River Tripper's oyster-and-seal cruise from Schooner Landing; or sit down to a dozen at King Eider's Pub in town or the Shuck Station just across the bridge in Newcastle. Each listing was checked against the place's own page, and it links straight there for hours and booking. It also answers the questions newcomers actually ask: the oysters are farmed rather than dug wild, so they're around all year; the old "only in months with an R" rule doesn't really apply to cold, farmed, refrigerated Maine oysters; and the farm store and the cruises cut their hours back in winter, so it's worth checking before you drive out. Wholesale-only hatcheries were left off — these are the places you can actually visit.
The neighbour-reported road-conditions board now also runs as a boat-crossing board for towns reached only by water, where the daily question is whether a boat is crossing — running, waiting for the tide or load, or no boat today. First use: Bonthe, on Sherbro Island.
Bonthe is reached only by boat and no one publishes a timetable. Sign in at the wharf to say whether a boat is crossing right now — running, waiting for the tide or load, or not today — so others don't wait without knowing. It always points to the Maritime Administration and never judges whether a boat is safe to board.
When Tết, Trung Thu and the other lunar festivals land on the Western calendar — worked out from the lunar calendar itself, so the dates stay right for years. The parade and festival schedules come from the City of Westminster and UVSA, and the tool links straight to them.
Cape Coast floods in the same low places whenever a heavy downpour meets choked gutters and built-over waterways — the streets around NIB Road, Melcom and Kingsway-to-Tantri in the centre, and neighbourhoods like Abura, Ekon and the roads around the university, as the deadly storm of 19 June 2026 showed again. **Which Areas Flood** is a new page that shows which rainy season it is right now — the major season runs April to July, a shorter one September to November — and reads the weather model for the next few days, so you can see when heavy rain is on the way and plan around the low roads before it sets in. It names where the town floods and why, and it lists who to call. It is not a flood warning, and it says so plainly. The real alerts still come by radio — ATL FM, Kastle, Cape and TW — and from NADMO and the emergency line 112, all of which are on the page. The rain figures are weather-model estimates, not measurements; calm skies are never a promise, and heavy rain on the hills is a reason to be watchful. Rainfall data is from Open-Meteo (CC BY 4.0).
Two reusable tools joined the platform. 'What's in Bloom' is a month-by-month guide to the flowers a place is known for, reading the current month so it always shows what is flowering now and where to see it (first use: Đà Lạt). 'Which Bin Does It Go In?' is a searchable waste sorter — type an item and see which bag or cart it belongs in, with the whole list to browse (first use: Lunenburg). Both work on a phone in seconds and stay honest about what they cannot promise.
A new tool: type any household item — pizza box, coffee cup, batteries, seafood shells — and it tells you which of the Town's four streams (recyclables, paper, organics, garbage) it belongs in, plus deposit returns and depot drop-offs. It follows the Town of Lunenburg's own program and links the Town's page as the last word; a few items are shifting as Nova Scotia's province-wide recycling rules change, and the tool says so.
The Queensland side of the Simpson Desert crossing (the QAA Line over Big Red) stayed shut past its usual mid-March reopening after the 2025–26 Channel Country floods — reported closed to 31 August 2026. The road's note now says so and points to the Queensland Parks alert.
Reads the live gauge up the valley at Diamantina Lakes alongside Birdsville's own — a rise upstream is an early sign of water heading down toward the town's roads, often days ahead. It's not a flood warning; the Bureau of Meteorology's warnings are linked on the page.
Community boards that report a boat crossing now use crossing words — crossing, waiting, not running — instead of road ones. And when you open a correction or suggestion form, the cursor now lands in the box straight away, so it works cleanly by keyboard and screen reader.
The neighbour-reported crossing board is working again. Tap a route to say whether a boat is crossing, waiting for the tide or load, or not running — and see what neighbours have reported, alongside the official notices.
Two reusable tools other towns can use too. A council-tax calculator works out any English council's charge by band from the published Band D figures and the statutory band proportions. A school-calendar tool shows the school year across several districts at once and works out 'is there school today' from today's date. Both are calm, phone-first, and only need refreshing once a year.
A new tool for the Santa Clarita Valley: the 2026-2027 school-year calendar for all five districts — Hart, Saugus Union, Newhall, Sulphur Springs and Castaic Union — together. It shows whether there's school today, when the next break is, and where the calendars differ (the districts start between August 10 and 13, and their spring and fall breaks don't all line up). Each district's official calendar is linked as the last word.
A new tool for Cheltenham: pick your band (A to H) and see this year's council tax charge, what it works out to a month, and how the bill splits between Gloucestershire County Council, the adult social care precept, Cheltenham Borough Council and the police. It also lists the five parishes that add a precept. The figures are the council's own 2026/27 amounts, worked out with the standard band proportions; the council's own schedule stays the authority.
When someone shared a tool from an Amharic-language town, the preview image showed empty boxes instead of the tool's name. The share images now display Amharic (Ge'ez) text correctly.
How Busy Is Maleny? shows how crowded town is likely to be on any day in the next few weeks — built from the weekend rhythm, Queensland school holidays and big events like Knitfest and the Music Festival — and points you to the calmest day to head in instead. It's a heads-up for the perennial weekend parking squeeze on Maple Street, which is tighter still while the streetscape works run through to about December 2026. A pattern, not a live count.
Two new building blocks. A line-status board reads a transit agency's official live feed and shows which lines are running well and which are delayed or closed, never guessing a line is fine when its data is missing. A drive-charge calculator works out a city's daily driving charges from dated, sourced rules, so it stays right when the rates change.
London's first tools are up: a live Tube, DLR, Elizabeth line, Overground and Tram status board, a calculator for what it costs to drive into the city (ULEZ plus the Congestion Charge), and Environment Agency flood warnings for the Thames. London runs across 33 councils, so these all-London tools come first; borough-level tools (bins, council tax, schools) come next.
Town pages briefly failed if the database had gone to sleep and was slow to reconnect. The site now quietly retries those moments, so a page that would have shown an error just loads instead.
Naoshima has no bridge, and fog, strong wind and typhoons do cancel the boats. The new tool brings Shikoku Kisen's own operation notices together with the live wind and fog on the Uno and Takamatsu crossings, and always links the official status page. It shows the weather and the operator's notices — it doesn't make the call.
A live wildfire board for the city: the active fires the national fire map lists near Yellowknife right now, each one's stage of control and size, with the official NWT Fire channels that matter in an evacuation. It reads the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre's national feed and shows the calm 'nothing burning near town' state honestly when the map is quiet. Pinned for fire season alongside the smoke and aurora tools.
The V/Line route 301 links now open the current February 2026 timetable instead of a dead page, and the last service home is corrected: on weekdays the latest Melbourne–Daylesford connection gets in about 7:20pm, with the later run into town around 8:40pm running Friday nights only.
The free public spring-water pumps across Daylesford and Hepburn Springs — the Hepburn Mineral Springs Reserve, Central Springs, Tipperary and Sailors Falls — with what each one tastes like, where to find it, and a plain reminder that the water is naturally mineral and untreated.
The Okarina world-music festival no longer appears on Bled's official events programme (its Culture Institute run was 2006–2019), so it has been removed from the roadworks-and-busy-days board. The candle night now carries its current name, Lights on the Lake (Lučke na jezeru), and the Strategic Forum dates are corrected to late August / early September (31 August – 1 September in 2026).
Bled through the year gathers the town's recurring events — the May accordion weekend, Medieval Days at the castle, the July candle night (Lights on the Lake), the Assumption Day pilgrimage to the island, the Strategic Forum, and the winter lights — in the order they come around, each with a link to the host for the year's exact dates and the thing you need to know before you go.
A small tool shows today's sunrise, sunset and daylight length for Hay River, and how fast the days are growing or shrinking — close to twenty hours of light near the summer solstice, about five in the depth of winter. Worked out from the town's latitude, so there's nothing to fetch and nothing to go stale.
A new tool shows the wind chill in Hay River right now and over the next three days, and the hours when exposed skin is at risk — worked out from the live temperature and wind on Environment Canada's published wind-chill scale, with its frostbite times. It's plain about being a model reading, not an official warning, and links Environment Canada for that. Built now so it's ready for winter; in summer it simply says there's no cold risk.
A new tool lists the highest predicted high tides for Boston Harbor over the next six weeks — the dates to watch — and says, from live NOAA predictions, how close the highest one comes to NOAA's minor coastal-flood stage. On a calm day the tide alone stops a little short; it's wind, rain and storm surge piling on top that put water on Long Wharf, Morrissey Boulevard, East Boston and the Seaport. These are predictions, not a flood warning: the page points to the National Weather Service and the City for that.
A plain-words guide to Bright's kerbside bins: the lime-green FOGO bin weekly, the red rubbish and yellow recycling bins on alternating fortnights, most of the township collected on Tuesday — with what belongs in each bin, and the council's address lookup for your exact street and week.
The market price boards, livestock boards, and park-fee tools carry a plain note when their figures are getting old — "these are not today's prices," "fee schedule changes soon." That note was being timed against the moment the server last started rather than the actual day you're reading it, so it could appear a little late. It now flips on the exact day the figures cross the line, in every language. Nothing about the underlying data changed — only when the freshness note turns on.
We re-checked the Kilimanjaro park fees in the fair-climb calculator. No new TANAPA tariff has been announced for 2026/27, so the figures are unchanged and the tool is current through to the middle of 2027.
A new planning tool compares the seven Kilimanjaro routes by where you sleep each night — the day-by-day altitude that decides whether your body keeps up — alongside how many days each takes, the distance, the crowds, and where each one reaches the summit. More days on the mountain means a better chance of getting to the top and an easier climb on the crew, so it sits beside the fair-climb cost tool as the other half of planning an honest climb. It is built from published route itineraries, not medical advice: see a doctor or travel clinic before you go, and plan your days with a licensed guide.
Added a shared BulletList component so a tool's tips, checklists and house rules render consistently — and every line now runs through the same link detection the rest of the site uses, so a phone number or web address mentioned in a tip is one tap on a phone instead of plain text to copy out. Rolled into eight tools to start.
Behind the scenes: a new reusable mountain-weather tool reads the freezing level and the wind at altitude for an alpine town from open forecast data — first used in Chamonix, and ready for other mountain towns. The parking comparator also gained a compact at-a-glance summary, so a town page can lead with today's cheapest place to park.
A new tool shows where Newquay's main buses are right now — how far each one is from the bus station and which way it is heading, in plain words. It follows the Truro routes (85, 87, 91 and 93), the coast road to Padstow and the airport (56), with the Atlantic Coast Line train to Par alongside. The live positions come from the Bus Open Data Service. The page says plainly that the listed frequencies are the scheduled service, not a countdown, and that Cornwall's bus network is being revised from 26 July 2026.
Tonight's frost risk and today's fog, hour by hour, read from the forecast on the published Met Office scales — for the drive out, the garden and an early start. Yackandandah sits in a frost hollow, so it leads the town page through winter; the fire tools return for the October–April fire season.
When your tap runs dry, tap your estate to report it and see whether it is just you or the whole area. The board pairs neighbours' reports with where the town's water comes from and the IWASCO line. Reading is open to everyone; reporting takes a free account.
A new kind of tool shows how the price of a place's defining crop moves across the year — cheap at harvest, dear in the lean season — with past years' real highs and lows from a cited source. First used for Tahoua's onions.
A behind-the-scenes safety check: every link and every "Source" on a tool page is now guaranteed to be an ordinary web address (the kind that starts with http:// or https://). Nothing you see has changed — it simply closes the door, for good, on a link ever being able to do anything other than open a page.
